Powered through Wordle and left hungry for more? There's a new word-centric online puzzle here to fill the void. 'Bracket City,' as it's been aptly dubbed, cropped up seemingly overnight and is set to take over our phones — and our brains. Everything you need to know, below.
How to play Bracket City
Bracket City is described simply as "a nested clue puzzle game." Falling somewhere between Wordle and a traditional crossword (or 'The Mini', for NYT devotees), the premise is relatively simple. The game takes the form of a short paragraph, with certain words replaced for highlighted, bracketed terms. Players are challenged to solve the clues within the innermost brackets, working their way out to the outermost brackets, until eventually a short sentence is revealed.
Importantly, you need to solve the innermost brackets first, in order to reveal the context for and solve the outer brackets.
How do you win Bracket City?
Essentially, you win by completing the puzzle correctly, where each correctly guessed bracket takes you closer to completion. Clues are on offer if you get stuck: You can 'peek' at the first letter of a bracket, however this will be deducted from your final score. You can also opt to reveal a word in its entirety, but this also results in penalty.
When you do complete the puzzle, you'll be given a final score and a ranking.
How often is there a new Bracket City puzzle?
There's a new Bracket City puzzle released each day. There's no telling yet whether the game will receive the same kind of fanfare that Wordle has generated over the years, but for those looking for more brain teasers at the touch of their phone, we can definitely see it taking off.
