Trick or treat yourself – 'Weapons' hits streaming on HBO Max just in time for Halloween

There’s nothing like a horror drop right before Halloween – and Zach Cregger’s Blockbuster film Weapons is exactly the kind of fright we were desperate to stream this spooky season.

We’ve had our fair share of fall frights (Smile 2 still fresh in theatres, The Exorcist: Believer making waves), but Weapons feels like the crown jewel of at-home Halloween viewing. (It's already confirmed for a spin-off, if that's anything to go by.) Think of it as the perfect bridge between your pumpkin carving party and your late-night “why did I just watch that alone” spiral.

When will it drop?

The film lands on HBO Max 24 October 2025, with an HBO linear premiere the very next night on 25 October 22025. Yes, that means you can cue it up at home, lights off, candy in hand, and let it ruin your sleep schedule for the rest of spooky season.

What's it about?

If Cregger’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s the twisted mind behind Barbarian – that 2022 surprise hit that had everyone rethinking their Airbnb habits. This time, he’s trading rental-house horror for something even more nightmarish: at 2:17 a.m., nearly every child from one class disappears. No explanation. No trace. Just a gaping silence that a small town is left to fill with paranoia and dread.

Josh Brolin leads the cast, joined by Julia Garner and Alden Ehrenreich (yes, it’s as stacked as it sounds). Brolin himself calls it a story that “gets under your skin,” while Garner delivers the kind of performance horror fans haven't stopped dissecting for months.

Cregger has also teased hidden layers throughout the film, so consider your rewatch plans already made. As any true horror fan will tell you – the genre thrives on second glances. Who hasn't come across those endless video of people online pausing scenes of Hereditary to catch the things lurking in the corner. Weapons is designed for exactly that: to creep back in when you think you’ve shaken it off.
