From cult cinema to new kitten chaos, the RUSSH editors are deep in their cultural rotations this March. We’re revisiting old favourites, queuing up long-anticipated premieres, and discovering voices – both literary and musical – that shift the way we think.
Whether it’s RPatz navigating sci-fi satire, a Joan Didion deep dive, or Shania Twain spinning on vinyl, this month’s picks are as eclectic as ever.

Watch … Anyone who knows me knows I love Bong Joon-Ho and I was stoked to finally get a chance to see Mickey 17 on the big screen. I loved the silly sci-fi satire, and I never cease to be amazed at RPatz’s ability to create a new voice for himself. I also watched Porco Rosso for the first time and loved it. But I am a Ghibli stan so no surprises there.
Listen … Live music is sooo back for me in 2025. This month I caught the most spectacular set from Magdalena Bay at The Roundhouse, as well as Nils Frahm at the Sydney Opera House – an experience I can only describe as spiritual.
Read … I finished Eve’s Hollywood and loved it – need to get my hands on some more Babitz soon. I’ve just started Peripathetic by Cher Tan (who we just profiled), which has already got my brain turning. Online I’ve been reading some great pieces as well – like Fantastic Man’s old cover story with Jonathan Anderson (read in the wake of his leave from LOEWE).

Watch … Predominantly I have been watching my new kitten, Fox Mulder, destroy a small felt bat. Sorry, it’s the truth. It’s addictive with an unpredictable narrative arc (the camera work leaves a lot to be desired however). When I have to leave him to sleep, I have been watching some real art. I recently watched David Lynch’s 1999 road movie, The Straight Story and it was incredible. Richard Farnsworth plays a war vet who travels across the states on a lawnmower to reconcile with his long lost brother, Harry Dean Stanton. Farnsworth’s daughter is played by Sissy Spacek and her incredibly lovable character is what also gives it a Lynchian trait of unusual personas. Naturally, I am a little curious about The White Lotus as out of love and dedication to Parker Posey, will be rewatching Party Girl and Best In Show.
Listen … The new single by These New Puritans with Caroline Polachek is of note, alongside Horsegirl, and a little Cornelia Murr.
Read … Endless pages on how to raise a kitten perfectly, although I have many on my list, including the Book of Ayn by Lexi Freiman, which my partner highly recommends.

Watch … The Longest Ride – I’ve been in a cowboy mood and stumbled across this on Disney+. I also saw that Friends is leaving Netflix at the end of March so I had to buy the series on AppleTV+.
Listen … A few old favourites – Shania Twain’s discography, The Cure and Dire Straits (on vinyl).
Read … I’ve been opening TRY TO CATCH IT on a daily basis. I’ve also started my Throne of Glass journey and am half way though The Assasins Blade (yes, I am reading it first).

Watch … I watched Okja in light of Bong Joon Ho’s new movie Mickey 17 coming out. And it absolutely shredded me to pieces, such a sad but real film. A Complete Unknown, which I can’t remember if I said, but Timmy really blew my mind. And I finished Severance season 2, which, as much as I love, these cliff hangers are biting.
Listen … A weird mix of Lorde and A$AP Rocky…
Read … It has blown my mind that I still haven’t read Joan Didion, Patti Smith and all the greats. So I had to do something about it. And now I'm reading The White Album by Joan Didion.

Watch … Obviously Severance deserves a mention, and I’m already grappling with how to fill my Friday nights since the intense season finale. I also devoured Adolescence in one sitting, and was left feeling pretty unsettled, although the one-shot technique had me captivated the entire time. On a much lighter note, I was so happy to discover a new comedy special from one of my favourite comedians, James Acaster, called Hecklers Welcome, which was the perfect distraction on a recent flight from Perth to Sydney.
Listen … I’ve done a decent amount of flying this month, so I’ve ventured out of my usual podcasts to fill the time. The best thing I discovered was a two-part episode courtesy of Darling, Shine!, which featured Steph Weiss, one of the Australians who got stranded in the ocean in Indonesia on a surfing trip back in 2023. It’s easily the most captivated I’ve ever been during a podcast episode.
Read … I only managed to get through one book this month, but it was a good one: Cleopatra and Frankenstein by Coco Mellors. So heartbreaking but funny – a good balance.

Watch … There was not much time for media consumption in March, it’s been so busy with travel. I have kept up with The White Lotus on Monday nights. I did start watching Severance but admit it hasn’t grabbed me in the same way as the rest of the RUSSH team. I also did watch Adolescence, which I thought was so powerful.
Listen … I’ve had Sleep Token on repeat for the last few weeks. I’ve also been diving back into my old Kisschasy archive as I have tickets to see them mid-year.
Read … I haven’t had the chance to pick up a book this month. Shameful I know. Instead, in my spare pockets of time, I’ve been reading the entries in RUSSH’s Literary Showcase 2025. The finalists were recently announced. There are some deeply moving pieces so I recommend having a read.
