Adaptable, shade-adjusting makeup has always been a topic of intrigue. Blush that changes based on skin chemistry or lipstick that intensifies based on your natural lip colour? Give it all to me.

pH makeup is not a definitive category but refers to makeup that takes on a unique tint, depth or undertone based on your unique pH (as in, the same blush or lip stain will look different on your versus your friend). The science is... vague, but apparently it has something to do with the acidity of your skin influencing the way pigments appear.

Clinique Black Honey is a prime example. And if you were born in the 80s or 90s you'll likely remember the green Lipstick Queen Frog Prince formula (fun fact: it's still around).
