Van Cleef & Arpels’ Perlée collection is the ultimate spring jewellery companion

Van Cleef & arpels Perlée

There's a certain magic attached to the welcoming of a new season. A revitalisation of all the senses, there's no change quite like spring that has the ability to invigorate us – mind, body and soul. And while many of the shifts we crave from the warmer months – energy, excitement, freedom – tend to come from within, there's something to be said about the way in which we communicate these feelings with ourselves and others on the surface. Self-expression can take on many forms, but this spring, it's jewellery that's on our mind; and the season's joyful and lively spirit is no better felt than in Van Cleef & Arpels' Perlée collection.

A collection that demonstrates the Maison's unparalleled savoir-fare expertise through an offering that doesn't compromise on its light and delicate style, Perlée's instantly recognisable emblematic golden bead motif is a collaboration of true craftsmanship. The collection was first brought to life in 2008, drawing inspiration from Van Cleef & Arpels' extensive design history, which first saw an iteration of the gold beads in the 1920s. Since then, the Maison has continued to experiment with the form and function of these iconic spheres, altering the size, placement and interpretation of the hallmark style.

In 2022, the collection now reaches all the realms of possibilities. With pieces now available in yellow, rose or white gold and accompanied by precious or ornamental stones, mother-of-pearl or coral, the Perlée collection springs to life through a range of jewellery and timepieces. So, for an offering so steeped in history, you might be wondering how Van Cleef & Arpels is continuously cementing Perlée in the here and now. Unsurprisingly, there is no shortage of innovative design in the Maison's latest iteration. This season, there's a focus on creating a true symphony of colour, with pieces like Van Cleef & Arpels' signature Philippine rings being paired with a dazzling palette of ornamental stones to present five new creations of the ring.

Elsewhere, matches are made through the Maison's Perlée couleurs collection, presenting two sets – a bracelet and necklace – in lapis lazuli or coral – that both frame and compliment the elegant beaded design. Rubies, sapphires and emeralds adorn three new sparkling rings, inspired by the Caroline rings and bracelets created in the 1970s; and for the traditionalists among us, the same asymmetric aesthetic is introduced in a collection of diamond and gold pave rings with newly accompanying earrings in yellow, white and rose gold.

If time is of the essence, Perlée's signature beading has found its way to a new selection of watches. The first, sees five new timeless pieces combining gentle curves and subtle details, watchmaking savoir-faire and jewellery inspiration; with the ability to interchange the bracelet based on your mood. The second is an ultimate love letter to the Maison's signature beads and heritage jewellery making – a 'hidden' jewellery watch that combines the delicate spherical structure of Perlée with vibrant stone spheres that pivot to reveal a dial in white mother-of-pearl, surrounded by a border of round diamonds. Is there anything more joyful than the perfect surprise?

As is customary with the Maison, each of its creations have a well-crafted home inside the Van Cleef & Arpels' universe, which is why its recent collaboration with renowned designer and artist Arthur Hoffner, through a graphic and sculptural display was such a natural fit. A continuation of their first partnership in 2018, Hoffner crafted a warm and playful installation showcasing the Perlée collection, which will adorn the exterior and interior windows of Van Cleef & Arpels' boutiques around the world from September 1 to October 15, 2022. A holistic celebration of the bountifulness of spring in all its forms, Perlée takes us there.
