Everything to know about the Château de la Messardière (the next ‘White Lotus’ hotel)

Château de la Messardière

And just like that: we have a location for season 4 of HBO's The White Lotus. Yes, it was confirmed this week that Mike White and co have settled on a historic property in the French Rivieria: Château de la Messardière. Perched above Saint-Tropez, it's a property with a layered history, discreet opulence, seasonal exclusivity, and already feels like a ready-made backdrop for the suave and thrilling White Lotus intrigue. It’s luxurious, slightly mysterious, and irresistibly dramatic – exactly the kind of place where stories unfold under the Riviera sun.

Here's everything you need to know about the hotel.

Where is Château de la Messardière located?

Overlooking Saint-Tropez from a privileged hilltop, Château de la Messardière enjoys panoramic views across Pampelonne Beach and the vineyards of Ramatuelle. Just minutes from the town’s port and nightlife – yet blissfully secluded – the setting strikes a rare balance between Riviera buzz and private-estate calm.

What is the history of Château de la Messardière?

Built in the 19th century, the château began life as a romantic wedding gift from cognac merchant Gabriel Dupuy d’Angeac to his daughter Louise and her husband, cavalry officer Henry Brisson de La Messardière. After hosting aristocratic society and glamorous parties during the Roaring Twenties, the property fell into disrepair before being restored in the late 20th century under France’s Monuments Historiques – laying the groundwork for its modern renaissance.

Today, the 5-star palace-turned-luxury-hotel is perched on 32 acres of parasol pines, cypress trees, and sweet-smelling jasmine as part of the Airelles Collection (who own several resorts across Versailles, Saint-Tropez, in Provence, Courchevel, and Val d'Isère).

Who owns Château de la Messardière today?

The estate entered a new chapter when it joined the Airelles Collection, reopening in 2021 after extensive renovations. Now holding Palace status, it stands among the most prestigious hotels in the South of France, combining heritage architecture with contemporary luxury.

What are the rooms and suites like?

The hotel features 86 rooms and suites set within the original château and surrounding villas – with rooms going for anywhere between $3,000 and $8,000 a night. Expect sunlit interiors, soft Mediterranean tones, private terraces or balconies, and views over gardens, vineyards, or the sea. For maximum White Lotus drama, some suites and residences include private pools, multiple bedrooms, and expansive living spaces ideal for long, indulgent stays.

What restaurants are at Château de la Messardière?

Dining is a major draw. Guests can enjoy refined Mediterranean cuisine at La Table de La Messardière, Italian classics at Palladio, and Japanese-Peruvian dishes at Matsuhisa Saint-Tropez by Nobu Matsuhisa. Add pastries by Cédric Grolet and champagne cocktails by the pool, and every meal feels cinematic.

What amenities does the hotel offer?

Highlights include a vast spa with Valmont treatments, multiple restaurants and swimming pools, tennis and padel courts, outdoor fitness areas, a private beach club at Jardin Tropézina, and a family-friendly kids’ club. There's even private beach access – complete with a 24-hour Rolls-Royce transfer that connects guests to Saint-Tropez with ease.
