If you're a fan of Fourth Wing or Rebecca Yarros – its author – then you've probably at least heard of her 2021 hit romance novel The Things We Leave Unfinished. And if you have (or even if you haven't), then you should be excited to know that it's officially being adapted into a movie.
Yep, the book, which first came out in 2021 and promptly blew up on TikTok, is finally headed to the big screen with a seriously impressive team behind it.
What is the plot?
At the centre of the novel is Georgia Stanton, a 28-year-old woman picking up the pieces after a messy public divorce. She heads back home, only to find herself unexpectedly teaming up with a famous author to finish her late great-grandmother’s World War II-era love story. But as they dive into the manuscript, Georgia discovers secrets from the past that not only change how she sees her family, but also make her question her own heart. It’s a story that weaves together two romances – one old, one new – and both deeply emotional.
Who is a part of the film project?
Writing the script is Arash Amel, best known for A Private War, and he couldn’t be more excited. He said he fell in love with the book’s sweeping romance and emotional depth from the very first page, and immediately clicked with Yarros over their shared vision.
Todd Lieberman is producing through his company Hidden Pictures, and both he and Yarros will serve as executive producers – so the original story is definitely in good hands.
Lionsgate seems just as enthusiastic. Their film group president, Erin Westerman, said Yarros’ stories have a way of capturing readers’ hearts and not letting go – and they’re confident moviegoers will feel the same way.
What else is being adapted from Yarros?
The Things We Leave Unfinished isn’t the only Yarros book getting the Hollywood treatment right now. Her smash-hit fantasy novel series Fourth Wing is currently being adapted into a TV series by Amazon MGM Studios (and we've been speculating whether Josh Hueston could be attached to the project... ), and In the Likely Event is headed to Netflix.
