Basically every celebrity is cast in Wes Anderson’s new movie, ‘The Phoenician Scheme’

Wes Anderson 'The Phoenician Scheme'

There's a new Wes Anderson film en route, and the director has used his star power to cast just about every actor we can think of. Nearly two years on from Asteroid City, and Anderson officially has a new project heading to cinemas: The Phoenician Scheme. Co-written by Roman Coppola and Anderson himself, we are so ready to sink our teeth into a non-linear, non-traditional plot and deliciously pastel hues and meticulously quirky tableau-like imagery. Keep reading for everything we know so far about The Phoenician Scheme.

Who is cast in The Phoenician Scheme?

The movie tells the story of Zsa-zsa Korda (Benicio del Toro), “one of the richest men in Europe,” his daughter-slash-nun Sister Liesl (Mia Threapleton — aka, Kate Winslet's actual daughter), and her tutor Bjorn Lund (Michael Cera).  This trio is joined by fellow actors Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Riz Ahmed, Mathieu Amalric, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Richard Ayoade, Rupert Friend, Hope Davis, and Benedict Cumberbatch. A few big names, to say the least.

What is The Phoenician Scheme actually about?

Anderson has been predictably cryptic with this one. All we know is that the film tells “The story of a family and a family business”.

When does The Phoenician Scheme come out?

Surprisingly, there's not too long to wait before this one actually hits our screens. In the US, The Phoenician Scheme will open in limited release on May 30, 2025 and expand wide on June 6. Universal Pictures will be handling international distribution, so we can expect that to follow shortly after.
