Letterboxd has thoughts on ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ and… That’s all

I know I speak on behalf of magazine journalists (and fashion girls more generally) everywhere when I say The Devil Wears Prada is something of an ancient text. When the film first came out in 2006, it inspired a generation of men and women to pursue a career in fashion — this despite its scathing one-liners and less-than-glamorous portrayal of life inside Runway magazine.

Naturally, when a sequel was announced nearly 20 years later, it was met with a fair amount of trepidation. When something is that close to perfect, revisiting it can feel like tampering with sacred ground. My faith in the sequel was somewhat restored knowing that the iconic cast — Meryl, Emily, Anne, Stanley — were all back on board, but even so, I was nervous.

It’s also hard to ignore that the film’s original magic was tied to a very specific moment in fashion media — one that, for the most part, no longer exists. Would it feel nostalgic, or just a little bit bleak, to revisit an industry that has so fundamentally shifted since the original made us fall in love with it?

Well, after what feels like years of drip-fed trailers and paparazzi shots from set, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is finally here. Critics have had their say, but we’re more interested in what the people — and more specifically, Letterboxd — think. Gird your loins and get acquainted with the best (and most outrageous) Letterboxd reviews, below.
