What will happen in ‘Tell Me Lies’ season 3? These are the best fan theories

To be honest, we've barely recovered from the emotional rollercoaster of Tell Me Lies season two. Now, season three is upon us, and we're about to be thrust back into the toxic world of Lucy and Stephen.

With a 2026 release date now locked in, fans are once again circling Reddit and TikTok, combing for clues about what comes next for Baird College’s most cursed couple. From revenge arcs to time jumps and unexpected pairings, here are the most compelling theories about where Tell Me Lies season three could take us. Read at your own risk.

Warning: Spoilers for Tell Me Lies seasons one and two below.

1. Stephen’s master manipulation isn’t over yet

I mean, are we surprised? Season two ended with Stephen's most brutal move yet: leaking Evan’s confession to Bree right before their wedding. Some fans think this was just the opening act of a bigger revenge plan.

One popular Reddit theory suggests Stephen will continue to meddle in Evan and Bree’s relationship — not because he cares, but because chaos is his love language.

2. Bree and Evan's wedding hangs in the balance

Poor Bree. After discovering Evan’s betrayal on the eve of her wedding, some fans think she’s going to pivot from passive heartbreak to active retribution.

Some think the wedding will never actually eventuate, while others have theorised that there's a chance she already knew Eva cheated on her with Lucy, and that Stephen’s not going to get the reaction he was looking for.

3. Are Pippa and Diana plotting something?

Honestly, I hope so. Over on Reddit, one user pointed out an overlooked plotline from season two, when Pippa returned from Bree's rehearsal dinner, and confirmed to Diana, "They're both there." While many assume she's talking about Stephen and Lucy, why exactly she needed to confirm their attendance remains unclear. Could the pair be plotting their own kind of revenge or exposé?

Revenge aside, we're also hoping their friendship properly blossoms into something more this season.

4. A leap forward — and a look back

Showrunner Meaghan Oppenheimer has hinted that season three will lean further into the 2015 timeline, with the characters older (but no wiser). Some fans think we’ll jump straight into the aftermath of that infamous wedding day reveal before flashing ahead to the next chapter of their adult lives. In this instance, Lucy might be out of Baird, but can you ever really graduate from Stephen DeMarco? Unlikely.

5. The new girl with a secret

Enter Amanda — played by Iris Apatow — the “bubbly but fragile” freshman hiding something big. Fans are convinced her secret will tie back to Lucy, possibly through a shared connection to Stephen or a campus scandal that unravels everything.

6. Is this the beginning of the end?

Rumour has it season three might be Tell Me Lies’ final chapter. Oppenheimer has said she always imagined the series as a three-season arc, and the finale of season two felt like a deliberate midpoint. That means we could finally get closure on both the 2008 college years and the 2015 timeline — or at least as much closure as a show like this ever gives.
