Read Tamsin Johnson's editor's letter from ‘RUSSH Home’ Issue 05

Dear RUSSH Reader,

I hope that my feelings for one single object won’t reduce me to a materialist, but there is a level of ‘right’ here that is just so difficult to turn away from. This particular object embodies so much of what I target in my own work that it acts as a sort of guiding light. It is so right because it is so pure, so imaginative, so genre-less and confident.

It happily exists of its own accord with quiet personality and yet has so much strength and pride. It lives at home in the corner of our living room, not only because my husband forbade I ever sell it, but also because I am deeply moved by it.

It is a relatively humble, bone-coloured, parchment-covered, tall and tubular-shaped drinks cabinet that we found at Clignancourt while perusing one day. It is French and from the 1940s, and other than that we don’t know a lot about it. When we got it home, we opened the drawer and in it was a little, unused Hermès notebook, somehow poignant in its emptiness.

This issue is filled with what felt right for me and, with hope, there will also be something for you that will light you up or guide your way.
