You can now watch the first six minutes of ‘Squid Game’ season three

The third and final season of 'Squid Game' will drop in 2025

It's only been six months since season two, but we're already itching for the next instalment of Netflix's mega-watt series Squid Games. The third season is slated for release in just a few days, but excitingly we're being drip-fed some teasers in the meantime.

Since its 2021 debut, Squid Game has become Netflix’s most-watched series ever, clocking an unprecedented 2.2 billion hours viewed. More than a survivalist horror, it’s a sharp critique of societal inequalities dressed in candy-coloured chaos. With Season three on the horizon, the stakes have never been higher – for Gi-Hun and for us.

What do we know so far?

In the preview, the remaining Squid Game players are met with an unexpected twist of their own. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), last seen leading a thwarted uprising at the tumultuous end of Season 2, is returned to the dormitory in one of the ominous, ribbon-wrapped coffins typically reserved for the eliminated. This time, however, the box doesn’t mark a death – it signals a resurrection. His fellow contestants are visibly relieved by his return, but Lee Jung-jae hints that Player 456’s path is far from clear in the upcoming season.

Speaking to Tudum, the actor describes the surreal nature of reprising the role. “When the coffin is opened, Gi-hun is reborn,” Lee explains. “He has to return to the competition, play the game again, and make those choices all over again.”
