For Sophie-Rose Harper, feeling good is something of a profession. Knowing exactly where to feel great in London is an art form.
The classical Pilates teacher and founder of SR Pilates has an address book built around the pursuit of a life well lived: serious training, restorative treatments, considered food and, crucially, very good coffee. Her recommendations span Kundalini yoga and jiu-jitsu, lymphatic massage and acupuncture, freshly squeezed beetroot juice and long walks beside the Thames.
With her own classical Pilates studio soon to open in Holland Park, Harper is adding another destination to London’s wellness map. Here, she shares with RUSSH the places already firmly pinned to hers – from the facialist worth making the journey to Richmond for, to her neighbourhood coffee order, favourite farmers’ markets and an Exmouth Market spot with first-date credentials.
The best spot for a workout?
If you like Kundalini Yoga, Love Supreme Projects is the place. For a personal training session head to Matter Gym, the trainers are top tier. For something different like Jujitsu, I love Arma BJJ. Also, my soon-to-open classical Pilates studio, SR Pilates, in Holland Park.
Best spot to unwind and reset?
180 Health Club is pretty dreamy, with everything you need (or didn’t know you needed) all under one roof. Try the lymphatic massage with Loretta and acupuncture with Renata.
Best spot for a facial?
Jo Ford Skin in Richmond Hill. If that's a little far, Skin Matters next door to my new studio in Holland Park.
And massage?
Make sure you book in at Koia or Thai Harmony in Notting Hill.
The best coffee in the city?
My spot is St Clair right opposite my studio. It’s chill – the perfect place to get work done or catch up with a friend. My order is an iced Americano.
Best place for a nourishing meal?
I like Klear Labs always. Great produce – they really care – and the presentation is exquisite. Make sure you try the gluten free, sugar free banana bread and freshly squeezed juices… particularly the beetroot.
Best place for a leisurely weekend walk?
I’m a big fan of a river walk anywhere in London. I love my city!
If I need to stock up on beauty or wellness essentials…
I head to Selfridges to buy Emma Lewisham.
The best farmer’s markets?
Queens Park if you’re west, Herne Hill if you’re east.
A hidden gem?
Exmouth Market. I consider it a perfect first date spot – great food and good vibes.
