Production for season three of Shrinking is officially underway, with filming confirmed to continue in Pasadena and Altadena—two of the show's original filming locations. The hit Apple TV+ series, which stars Jason Segel as therapist Jimmy navigating grief, parenthood, and professional boundaries, has quietly become one of the platform’s most-loved titles.
There was uncertainty earlier this year about when and where production would resume, following the impact of Californian wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Both Pasadena and Altadena were significantly affected, raising questions about whether the show could continue filming there. But in a recent Instagram video, cast member Christa Miller reassured fans that the show isn’t going anywhere.

Who is cast in Shrinking season three?
Season three of Shrinking sees the return of familiar faces — and the addition of some exciting new ones. Jason Segel reprises his role as Jimmy, and confirms that How I Met Your Mother co-star Cobie Smulders will also return after her brief guest appearance in season two. “She pops back around,” Segel teased at the Newport Beach TV Fest, adding that their real-life friendship brings something special to the screen: “We have known each other for 20 years… but the characters have only just met.”
Also back is co-creator Brett Goldstein, who will once again appear on screen, while Jeff Daniels joins the cast as Jimmy’s father, marking a new chapter in the show’s evolving family dynamic.
What is Shrinking season three about?
Naturally, we don't yet know what season three will entail. But with all episodes of season two now streaming, we have some theories. For Jimmy and his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell), season two was all about forgiveness, particularly when it came to Louis (Brett Goldstein), the man who drunkenly killed their wife and mother.
Season two also saw Paul (Harrison Ford) take big steps in his relationship with Julie (Wendie Malick), while also grappling with his worsening Parkinson's disease.
Plus, Sean (Luke Tennie) had a relationship blossom with Paul's neurologist Dr Sykes Amy Rosoff), while Gaby (Jessica Williams) let down her walls with boyfriend Derrick (Damon Wayans Jr). And finally, Brian (Michael Urie) is gearing up to adopt a child with Charlie (Devin Kawaoka), and Liz (Miller) is officially on board to babysit.
When will Shrinking season three air?
With production currently underway, Shrinking season three could hit our screens in late 2025, or early 2026.
