Ever since Yellowjackets crash-landed (literally) into our lives it’s been hard to find something that scratches the same itch. The show follows a high school girls' soccer team who are plunged into the wilderness when their plane crashes en route to Seattle. Stranded, they try to survive – but the story takes a ritualistic, supernatural turn. It moves between the 1990s and the present-day, as the now-adult survivors continue to reckon with what they did to stay alive. It's a unique watch, to say the least.
Sadly, it's now been announced that season four of the show will be its last. But that doesn't mean the thrill has to end. If you’re looking for something with a similar energy, or just want to get your heart racing a little, we've got you covered. Below, six shows like Yellowjackets we think are worthy of binging next.
Sharp Objects
Based on the novel by Gillian Flynn, Sharp Objects follows a troubled journalist (Amy Adams) returning to her hometown to report on the murder of two young girls. While she's there, however, she has to confront the trauma of her past that she tried to bury. At its core, this is a gothic story with psychologica; bite, and similarly haunting themes to Yellowjackets.
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
If you loved the original Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but prefer something darker and weirder, look no further. Kiernan Shipka stars as Sabrina who on her 16th birthday, must make a choice between the witchy world, or the human world with he rfamily and friends. It shares Yellowjackets' central themes of girlhood and power, although it leans a little more camp than traumatic.
True Detective
True Detective is an anthology format, meaning each season stands alone. We'd argue that season one is particularly reminiscent of Yellowjackets – it's a fragmented narrative that charts an occult mystery, with a deep sese of existential dread propelling the narrative. Just swap high school soccer for southern gothic nihilism.
The Resort
This mystery series blends past and present as a couple on holiday uncovers a long-unsolved disappearance. It’s a little like Yellowjackets meets The White Lotus — strange and funny, but imbued with a sense of existential crisis.
We Were Liars
Prime Video's adaptation of E. Lockhart’s cult novel We Were Liars is essential viewing for Yellowjackets fans. Set on a private island off the coast of Massachusetts, the story follows a privileged group of teens, a family with too many secrets, and a slow-building sense that something terrible has been forgotten — or hidden. We won't give too much away, but the twist is devastating.
The Girlfriend
The Girlfriend follows Laura (Robin Wright), mother whose seemingly-perfect world starts to unravel when her adult son brings home his new girlfriend, Cherry (Olivia Cooke). The chilling events that happen next are told through the shifting perspectives of Laura and Cherry, so you're never quite sure whose version of events to believe. An instant hit for a reason.
