That's right, our very own RUSSH digital cover star Shabana Azeez has been cast in a new movie.
She's currently filming The Pitt season three in America (yes, we cannot wait either), but her next project is already lined up: indie feature Unrequited by debut director Lynn.Q Yu. Azeez is a familiar face in the independent film space, and this will see her take on one of the film's leads, continuing her impressive run of character-driven performances. While details remain tightly under wraps, the announcement is already generating excitement (and by that we mean, us).

What's Unrequited about?
You are going to be excited when you read this – it's a queer romance, one of the hottest genres at the moment. Unrequited is based off Yu's original script, which follows two former college roommates, Trish and Anjali (played by Azeez). When Trish find out Anjali, her best friend and former lover, is leaving America to return back to India, they share one more experience together: a road trip around California exploring and having a grand old time, all in the hopes Anjali stays.
Who else is cast?
Azeez is the only actor cast in the film at this time, according to Deadline. While we wait and see who will play Trish, we can confirm Code Entertainment will be producing the film. And for the scriptwriter and director, this marks Yu's first foray into directing a feature film. Prior, Yu had directed a short titled Pop Up Life: Los Angeles and wrote the screenplay for Perfect Girl, a music thriller that is currently in post-production.
When will it be released?
There is no official release date yet on Unrequited. However, they're due to start production in California next spring, so we can hope for a late 2027 or early 2028 release date.
