Although it felt like a lifetime waiting for Severance season two to roll around, the finale is already on the horizon. Yep, this Friday, we'll be heading back to Lumon Industries for a mega 76-minute-long episode and, let's just say, there are a lot of loose ends to tie up.
We’ve unravelled the eerie presence of the goats, and questioned what their existence means for Lumon Industries, but the unsettling world of severance technology extends far beyond a few disquieting farm animals. There are deeper mysteries at play, ones that have burrowed into our minds, warped our understanding of identity, and made us second-guess every calculated move in Severance season two so far.
And the internet? It’s been working overtime to piece together the fragments. The Severance theories and conspiracies swirling online are wild, intricate, and disturbingly plausible, emerging from the depths of Reddit rabbit holes and deep-dive TikToks, each one attempting to decode the enigma that is Lumon Industries. Are the innies more than just fractured consciousness? What is Cold Harbour really concealing? And why does a child wield so much power?
Here, every question we hope gets answered in the Severance season two finale, plus the most compelling fan theories — the kind that make you question whether you, too, are reading way too much into every microscopic detail of the show. Or maybe, you’re just onto something..
Warning: Spoilers ahead.
1. Seriously, what are the goats for?
Our questions about the goats date back as early as season one, episode five, when Mark and Helly first happened upon a tiny, bleating herd of goats, in one of the rooms of Lumon. When they opened the door, they were met by a man and a simple cryptic warning: "They’re not ready yet. It isn’t time.”
In S2, the goats played a much bigger role, with the pair uncovering the Department of Mammalian Nurturability and, with it, an even bigger room of goats, being cared for by the mysterious Lorne (Gwendoline Christie). Goats were also revealed to be a symbol of Kier and Lumon more generally, leading us to wonder: what's with all the goats?
2. The truth about Cold Harbour
The finale episode is titled Cold Harbor, so we'd guess this is one question mark that will actually be answered. ICYMI, we know that the mysterious and important file Mark (and the MDR team) is currently working on is titled Cold Harbor. We also know that one of the rooms Gemma is yet to be subjected to while being held at Lumon shares the same name, leading us to believe that Cold Harbor has a direct tie to Gemma and Mark.
In the second-last episode, Cobel asked Mark if he had finished the file yet, warning him that, if he had, it would be too late to save Gemma. Will we ever find out what's behind that door? And, more importantly, will it reunite Gemma and Mark, or push them further apart?
3.Who is Miss Huang and where is she going?
Miss Huang's departure from the severed floor was shrouded in just as much mystery as her arrival. The child employee cropped up at the start of season two as a kind of supervisor to the innie employees, and 2IC to Mr Milchick. But in last week's episode, Milchick abruptly declared the end of her Wintertide Fellowship, and sent her to live in Svalbard.
Fans are convinced there’s more to her than meets the eye. Some believe she’s a genetic experiment, possibly a clone from the Eagan bloodline, raised to maintain Lumon’s grip on power. And others have been quick to draw parallels between Miss Huang and Cobel, who also began her journey with Lumon as a child. Could the two perhaps collude towards helping Mark and Gemma reunite in the finale episode? That's a plot twist we'd love to see.

4. The whole world is severed
What if the experiment isn’t confined to Lumon’s basement? A chilling theory suggests the severance procedure extends far beyond Mark and his team, entire towns, cities, even governments could be under severed control. Think about it: every time someone mentions leaving town, it never actually happens. If reality itself has been split, how deep does the severance go?
5. Irving’s hidden agenda
It was a dark day when Irving was banished from Lumon entirely, effectively ending the life of his innie for good. But Irving’s cryptic behaviour has fuelled speculation about his true loyalties. Some believe he’s an undercover agent or whistleblower, deliberately severed to infiltrate Lumon and expose its secrets from the inside. His military background and obsessive investigations into Lumon’s operations only add to the suspicion. Could Irving be the key to taking the corporation down?

6. Gemma’s truth
A prevailing theory suggests that Mark’s presumed-dead wife, Gemma, wasn’t just revived—she was reprogrammed. It seems likely by now that Lumon used severance technology to bring her back, but MDR’s cryptic number-sorting process suggest something deeper: what if the team is actually refining personalities, shaping individuals to Lumon’s design? If so, the connection between Mark’s Cold Harbour case and Gemma isn’t a coincidence. That classified file might not just be about her, it could be her, another version of her waiting to be perfected.
7. Natalie is the board
There’s something off about Natalie’s connection to the board. The dominant theories suggest that either she is the board, or she’s being directly controlled by it. Unlike others, she refers to the board as "it" instead of "they." And then there’s her body language, her eyes frequently well up with tears when questioned about the board, almost as if she’s under duress. Is she hiding something? Or worse, is she being forced?

8. Is Cobel... good?
Cast your mind back to the penultimate episode, and it seemed Cobel was on track to help Mark and Devon, turning her back on Lumon industries for good. Of course, her character arc isn't entirely so straightforward, with Cobel also being uncovered as the person who dreamt up the severance process in the first place. So, where will her loyalties lie come the season finale?
What’s up with Fields and Burt?
Burt and Fields’ recent dinner with Irving hinted at something sinister lurking beneath the surface. Burt’s admission that he was a “scoundrel” in his past raises suspicions. His cryptic remark about sending his innie to “heaven” while his outie faced “hell” suggests he’s hiding something. Then there’s Fields, who contradicts the official timeline of when Burt started at Lumon, implying both men may have been involved with the company long before severance was legal.
And what about Burt’s nickname, “Attila”? Named after a conqueror, it suggests he may hold a far more powerful role at Lumon than he lets on. Meanwhile, Fields’ resemblance to the whistling man from episode five has sparked theories that he’s been working for Lumon in secret. And then there’s Mr Drummond, who broke into Irving’s house while he was at dinner with Burt. Was it a coincidence? Or proof that Burt is hiding something much bigger?
