When Saturn moves backwards through Aries – the sign of courage, identity, and initiation – the question is no longer ‘What do I want to build?’, but rather, ‘Who is building it?’
One of many retrogrades happening this year, Saturn stations retrograde in Aries on 27 July until 11 December 2026. It invites us into one of the most important conversations we'll have with ourselves this year. I don't think Saturn retrograde is here to slow you down. I think it's here to expose every place you've been abandoning yourself, and you’ll come out of this cosmic cycle much more certain about who you are.
That’s a big bonus. Over the coming months, Saturn retrograde in Aries offers an opportunity to revisit the relationship you have with yourself: your confidence, leadership, anger and your willingness to take responsibility for the direction of your own life. Here's what you need to know.
Be your own authority
One of the hardest things to learn is that confidence doesn't come from everyone agreeing with you. It comes from trusting yourself before they do. Being your own authority is deeply knowing that no one else has lived your life from the inside. Advice can be valuable, but it shouldn't replace your own judgement. There comes a point where you have to stop outsourcing your decisions to other people's opinions and become someone who can live with the consequences of your own choices.
Take creative action
Creative action is what separates ideas from reality. Most people spend years refining plans they never begin, waiting until they feel ready, qualified, or certain. But creativity is often clarified through movement rather than thought. You learn by making, testing, failing, and adjusting. Often enough, that same process happens in cycles! The first version rarely looks like the final one, and that's exactly the point. Momentum teaches you things perfectionism never can.
Redefine your vision of success
Many of us inherit a definition of success before we're old enough to question it. We're taught to measure our lives through income, titles, status, or achievement without asking whether those things actually make us feel fulfilled. Redefining success means asking a more difficult question: what would a successful life feel like to me? For some people, it's freedom. For others, it's meaningful work, deep relationships, creative expression, or peace of mind. Success becomes far more sustainable when it's built around your own values rather than someone else's expectations.
Work out the difference between impulse and gut instinct
Impulse and intuition can look similar because both ask us to act quickly, but they don't come from the same place. Impulsivity often seeks immediate relief from discomfort, boredom, fear, or uncertainty. Gut intuition tends to feel quieter. It isn't always emotional or dramatic; it's often a steady sense that something is right or wrong before you can fully explain why. Learning the difference requires paying attention to your patterns. Does this decision help you avoid a feeling, or does it move you towards something that genuinely matters?
Take back your power
Power is rarely lost all at once. More often, it's surrendered in small, almost invisible ways: saying yes when you mean no, silencing your opinion to avoid conflict, waiting for someone else to validate a decision you've already made. Taking back your power can look like returning to the understanding that your life cannot be lived by committee. There comes a moment when you have to stop asking, "What will they think?" and begin asking, "What do I know to be true in my own inner world?"
Understand what you're outgrowing
Growth comes in all shapes and sizes including grieving the version of yourself that can no longer come with you. Every stage of life asks us to shed identities that once kept us safe: the overachiever who believed love had to be earned – or even the ‘people-pleaser’ who confused harmony with belonging. The difficulty is that identities don't disappear simply because we've outgrown them. Write down your values and see how your current choices are aligning with your list. The next chapter of your life rarely begins with finding yourself. More often, it begins with having the courage to release who you've been.
