I don't like vacuuming. And I think I speak for the universal I when I say that. Spending hours carrying a clunky, heavy machine around the house and sneezing from emptying all the dust is an unpleasant experience, to say the least. And between work, looking after my dog Stevie Nicks, and making time for my friends on the weekend, household chores are the first thing that fall off my to-do list.
Which is what lead me to research the Roborock – particularly the latest Saros 20 model.
I've never used a robot vacuum before, and I was daunted at the idea of how to work one, and the thought of it getting tangled on cords and trapped under furniture. The Saros 20, however, comes without any of those issues. It was able to map out each level of my house within 15 minutes, moving around furniture without bumping into anything, and seamlessly shifting between carpet and tiled floors — importantly, without ever needing any intervention from me.
All I need to do to set it to work is stand near the machine and use a voice prompt: "Hi Rocky, clean the kitchen" or "do a deep clean on the lounge room". There's an array of options to choose from, so whether you're looking for a light after-dinner vaccuum or a deep spring cleaning, Rocky can do it all.

Admittedly, one of my favourite features is the built-in camera that I use to check on my dog while I'm at work. You can access it through the app, like you would with a remote control car, and I have to admit I have found myself 'driving' Rocky around my house just to see what she's doing throughout the day. It can even snap photos of her as it cleans and mark where she is on the 'home' map.
But it's the cleaning capabilities that are hard to look past. Rocky's 36,000 Pa HyperForce suction power suction can handle dog hair, my long hair, dust, and crumbs without choking up – while also mopping, leaving the floors extra clean. And with Rocky's sleek black 7.98cm ultra-thin design and narrow docking station it calls home, it's hard not to find a spot that fits it around my house. And perhaps my second favourite feature – when Rocky is done and heads home to the dock, it automatically self-cleans by emptying the dust, and drying the mopping discs.
As a first time robot vacuum owner, I couldn't recommend it enough. Am I really surprised that it's becoming my new home essential? Not at all.
