A ‘Red, White and Royal Blue’ wedding is on the way — buckle up

Listen up: a sequel to our favourite rom-com Red, White and Royal Blue has been announced. We've already got a few clues as to what it's going to be about, with Amazon MGM studios sharing the updated title: Red, White and Royal Wedding

The first film was based on Casey McQuinston’s 2019 novel and premiered in 2023, taking Prime by storm. With the prequel reaching a 92% score from the harshest critic out (aka Rotten Tomatoes), the sequel is bound to receive just as much attention if there’s a wedding involved…

Here's what we know so far.

What is Red, White and Royal Wedding about?

The initial plot follows the concealed romance of Prince Henry (played by Nicholas Galitzine), a British royal forced to mask his sexuality, and Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez) the extroverted son of the U.S. President. When it comes to these two, hush-hush reigns supreme. Although official details of the plot haven’t been confirmed, we're expecting that the film will pick up where part one ended. Translation: the two embracing romance.

Whilst direct play-by-plays haven’t been solidified, Julie Rapaport, head of film, production and development at Amazon MGM, told Variety, “After seeing the incredible outpouring of love for Red, White & Royal Blue from fans around the world, it’s clear Alex and Henry’s story truly resonated with audiences… We couldn’t be more excited to continue that journey with Jamie Babbit at the helm — her sharp comedic sensibility and heartfelt storytelling make her the perfect director to build on the magic of the first film, in which Matthew López beautifully brought to life from Casey McQuiston’s beloved book.” Crediting the full creative team, Rapaport added, “We can’t wait to bring fans an unforgettable new chapter in their love story.”

Who else is involved?

Although other cast members haven’t been confirmed, for fans and onlookers alike, it is assumed that Clifton Collins Jr, Sarah Shahi, Rachel Hilson and the one and only, Uma Thurman will be returning.

Behind the scenes, veteran TV director and 5 time Emmy award winner, Jamie Babbit, is at the helm of the film after jumping on board to direct. The film will build on a script orchestrated by a holy trinity of talent consisting of Gemma Burgess, Matthew Lopez and McQuinston.
