It's always an exciting day when two of your TV faves are set to be starring in a cross-over rom com. And today is one of those days. The upcoming AppleTV+ romantic comedy series Prodigies has been announced, and is set to star Will Sharpe (The White Lotus, A Real Pain) and Ayo Edebiri (The Bear, Bottoms) as a couple whose love story defies the conventional rom-com timeline. Because what happens when the fairytale begins after the happily-ever-after?
What is the series about?
Sharpe and Edebiri are set to star as Ren and Didi, two former child prodigies who have been together since before they even understood the weight of promise. Now in their early 30s, the pair find themselves unravelling not just their relationship, but the ideals of success, identity, and love they built their lives around. Over the course of seven episodes, Prodigies asks the question so rarely posed in romantic storytelling: what if the real story starts when the credits would normally roll? Prodigies is as much a character study as it is a rom-com, tackling the myth of genius and the quieter heartbreaks that come with ordinary adulthood.
Who else is involved?
The show is created, written, and directed by Sharpe – with Edebiri also stepping in as executive producer. The show is set to be produced by Sister, the studio behind This Is Going to Hurt and Black Doves, with Jane Featherstone, Naomi de Pear, and Katie Carpenter also attached as executive producers. In terms of cast though, we're still pretty much in the dark. We're hoping this one might pull upon the A+ list of friends Edebiri and Sharpe likely have in their contact list to bring in some excellent guest stars. Rachel Sennott cameo anyone?
When will it be released?
A release date for Prodigies has not yet been confirmed, and no official premiere window has been announced. Updates from AppleTV+ are expected closer to the series launch. We'll keep you updated here as we know more.
