While the fashion week schedule is typically punctuated by a healthy dose of spectacle, Prada just made a compelling argument for restraint.

Presented at Milan Men's Fashion Week, Prada's Spring Summer 2027 menswear collection saw co-creative directors Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons strip fashion back to its essentials, proposing a wardrobe built from some very familiar separates: jeans, T-shirts, blazers and leather jackets. But of course, at Prada, nothing is quite so simple as it seems.

At first glance, the collection was built around the kind of pieces already hanging in most wardrobes. Look closer, however, and familiar staples revealed themselves as something entirely different. The opening look, worn by our very own Julia Nobis, set the tone: white jeans layered beneath a cropped denim jacket and navy blazer. From there, familiar garments were repeatedly reworked through unexpected fabrications and proportions. Trousers were slim and cropped above the ankle, leather jackets were shrunken, and denim came in shades of cream, pale pink and acid green rather than indigo.

There were plenty of Prada signatures woven throughout the collection, too. Retro-inspired prints appeared on fitted sweater vests and slim-cut trousers, while asymmetrical sunglasses added a futuristic edge. Elsewhere, translucent iterations of jeans and jackets transformed everyday staples into something unexpectedly delicate.

Proportions also felt particularly striking. Denim jackets were cut closer to the body – almost resembling shirts – while trousers were shrunken and skimmed the leg and finished just above the ankle. Leather blousons were similarly condensed, creating silhouettes that felt lean and youthful  – at times, the effect recalled the rock-and-roll energy that defined menswear in the early 2000s, filtered through Prada's distinct lens.

Overall, the message felt clear: innovation doesn't always require reinvention. Sometimes it comes from looking at the most familiar pieces in your wardrobe and asking how they might be seen differently.
