There’s something uniquely nostalgic about Wimbledon: the sound of tennis balls hitting rackets, the sweet scent of court-side strawberries and cream, the manicured green grass, and the unmistakable elegance of those dressed for the occasion. Tennis fashion has always been more than just sportswear; it’s a powerful language defined by crisp whites, classic cuts, and an effortless balance of form and function. And perhaps no one is more fluent in it than Polo Ralph Lauren. This season, the brand's SS25 collection captures this dialect perfectly, blending timeless tennis traditions with modern, everyday dressing. It’s a collection that lives beyond the court, inspiring a new way to approach method dressing, where purpose and polish meet.

As the Official Outfitter of The Championships since 2006, Ralph Lauren has shaped the look of tennis for nearly two decades, translating the agile elegance of Centre Court into pieces designed to be worn off-court and on the street. This season’s collection leans into that heritage with sharply tailored blazers, breathable shirting, and preppy details that recall not only Wimbledon’s iconic style, but Ralph Lauren's heritage — all reimagined for the contemporary wardrobe.

Creatives James Majoos and Dechen were hand-picked to showcase the looks, embodying this crossover between tradition and individuality. Known for their fearless style, they bring fresh life to these classic codes, showing how timeless tennis-inspired pieces can be worn in authentic, personal ways. The result, is a forward-thinking demonstration of how the discipline of tennis dressing — the clean lines, sharp polos, and thoughtful layering — translates naturally into everyday style.

Below, the pair sit down with RUSSH to discuss talk about personal style, Ralph Lauren's SS25 collection, and why tennis fashion is as much about attitude as it is about clothes.

Do you have a memory of watching or attending a tennis match that stands out to you?

Dechen: I always think back to the moment a butterfly that landed on Naomi Osaka during the 2021 Australian Open. It felt like such a sweet and gentle moment, and such a stark contrast to the intensity of the match. It felt magical.

James: I don’t wanna sound like a fake fan, but I’m very new to the world of sports, including tennis. Naomi Osaka is very cool. I like her. I like her style on the court, particularly at the US Open in 2022. It was her drip that got me a little more into the game actually. We’re both Libras too, so I know she’s a good person who obviously has cool taste. Shout out to my anime baddie, Ms. Osaka. Hope you’re doing well angel, if you’re reading this.

How does fashion play a role in how you experience sports like tennis — as a spectator or participant?

D: As a sport, Tennis has such a distinct style associated with it – it’d be almost impossible not to feel a connection to it when you’re dressed with that in mind. We all have an idea of what tennis style looks like, feels like. Beyond functionality, it makes you feel like you’re part of something, which I think enhances your experience as either a spectator or a player.

J: Honestly, I like to keep it casual but thoughtful. I’m not gonna say “mindful and demure,” but kinda that. I want to feel comfortable, especially if I’m going to be spectating for a long time. I appreciate seeing the fash in the stands though. Love that people are into dressing for the occasion, the tradition, and having their moment. If I see someone dressed dowwwwn in the all-white linen suit combo with the collar popped, I’m thinking, “Good for you. ’Tis the season.” I’ll be wearing good denim jeans and maybe a cute polo, collar down, and an aviator to protect the eyes. And as for the game, I’m weak. I’m going for whoever’s outfit I like the most.

What’s your ideal day out at Wimbledon — what are you wearing, eating, and who are you with?

D: My ideal day at Wimbledon would be spent surrounded by friends, probably off searching for high tea between matches. I’d go for a simple look like a trouser and loafer combo, maybe a knit jumper with London weather in mind. And a button up shirt - any excuse to wear a tie.

J: I’ll be wearing Ralph Lauren, of course. Sipping Pimm’s. Maybe I’ll lean all in with cucumber sandwiches. Who am I with? Someone hot. And they’re wearing Ralph Lauren too. Everything is romantic, ah.

What is it, to you, that makes tennis fashion so iconic — and so enduring?

D: What I personally love about this style is that despite being so recognisable, the elements of a tennis style outfit are so accessible. You don’t need any wild or extravagant pieces to put a look together, it can come from a wearable everyday wardrobe. I also think it’s classic enough that it can be reinterpreted to reflect modern styles too.

J: The tradition. Tennis fashion really has a look that’s rooted in the culture of the game. I like seeing how the players adapt that to reflect their own personalities and cultures. There’s definitely a standard, people who reinterpret that standard to suit them, they’re taking home the trophy in my eyes.

What does dressing for a moment like Wimbledon mean to you?

D: It’s such an exciting time for sport and fashion lovers alike. I love seeing that crossover become more and more prominent, it makes space for innovation in both industries. It truly does bring people together, and Wimbledon feels like the perfect celebration of that.

J: Like I said, comfortable and practical. I’m there to spectate. But I’m also there to partake in the culture a bit, so yeah, I’m putting on the cable knit sweater. Maybe I’ll pop the collar for a pic to post on the story.

What is your favourite piece from the Polo SS25 collection?

D: I love the olive double breasted blazer! I’d dress it down with jeans or throw it over a slip dress – it looks great with everything.

J: I really liked the ties. All of it was beautiful — I mean, it’s Ralph Lauren — but I’m a sucker for a good tie.

When you think about classic Ralph Lauren looks, what silhouettes or details come to mind?

D: To me, it’s all in the styling  - I think that’s what makes a relaxed look still polished. It’s the small details like layering, tucking, belting that feel very distinctly Ralph Lauren. I love the combination of flowy pieces with sharp tailoring, it’s what makes it feel so effortless and classic.

J: Tailored but relaxed. A good strong collar. Stripes, cable knits, crisp cuffs. Clothes that have status but are also playful depending on the wearer and their style. Perfect.
