Gracie Abrams is making her acting debut with A24 and Halina Reijn

Well, it seems Gracie Abrams really can do it all. The 26-year-old has spent the last few years becoming one of pop music’s most emotionally incisive voices. Now, the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter is taking her next creative step, officially making her acting debut in a new feature film from A24. The project, titled Please, will see Abrams step in front of the camera for the first time under the direction of Halina Reijn — the director behind Babygirl.

Will she give Paul Mescal a run for his money? Everything we know about Please, below.

What will Please be about?

Unsurprisingly, details around Please are being kept tightly under wraps, with no official plot synopsis revealed just yet. What we do know is that the film will be written and directed by Reijn, whose work consistently explores power, desire, identity, and the unspoken tensions that exist beneath the surface of modern relationships.

Given Reijn’s track record — from the sharp satire of Bodies Bodies Bodies to the erotic psychological intensity of Babygirl — expectations are, naturally, already high. While details around Abrams’ exact role remain undisclosed, we're expecting very big things.

Who is involved?

Please marks Reijn’s third collaboration with A24, following Bodies Bodies Bodies and Babygirl, the latter becoming one of the studio’s biggest global successes. Reijn will produce the film through her Man Up Film banner alongside David Hinojosa, who reunites with the director for their third project together. A24 will produce and finance, with Zach Nutman serving as executive producer.

For Abrams, the film signals a new chapter in her career. Since emerging in 2019, she has steadily built a devoted following through EPs Minor and This Is What It Feels Like, before breaking through with her 2023 debut album Good Riddance, which earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. Her 2024 follow-up, The Secret of Us, cemented her status as a pop mainstay.

It's also worth noting that, while this marks Abrams’ first acting role, her connection to the film world is longstanding — she is the daughter of filmmaker J.J. Abrams — making her crossover into cinema feel somewhat inevitable.

When will it be released?

At this stage, Please does not yet have a release date. We'd guess it's likely the film will arrive sometime in 2027, potentially debuting at a major international film festival before a wider theatrical release through A24.
