With just days to go until the release of Lost Weekend, Phoebe Bridgers' long-awaited third solo album, we've been combing through the credits for clues about who helped shape the record. Following 2020's Punisher, the new album arrives on 14 August and brings together a mix of familiar collaborators, indie favourites and one particularly intriguing mystery guest.
Here's who we can pinpoint so far...
Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus
Unsurprisingly, Bridgers has reunited with her boygenius bandmates. Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus both contribute backing vocals to the album's lead single, Lost Boys, continuing the creative partnership that has become one of indie music's most celebrated friendships.
Cameron Winter (aka "Son John-Johnson")
Perhaps the album's biggest mystery is Cameron Winter. Reviews revealed that someone credited as Son John-Johnson appears on both Kill Me and I Can't Wait, with the latter featuring a prominent duet.
While Bridgers hasn't officially confirmed the identity, according to Rolling Stone, Winter laughed off questions about the credit, joking, "I'll have to contact my lawyer," while Bridgers' team declined to comment. The publication also pointed out that Winter has a history of performing under playful aliases, making the pseudonym feel entirely plausible.
Bo Burnham
Yes, Bridgers' partner, comedian and filmmaker Bo Burnham is also making a feature on this project. He's credited with both backing vocals and writing credits (unsurprising if you've seen his vocal and writing chops on his film Inside). Bridgers and Burnham originally connected over his song That Funny Feeling, which Bridgers covered on her last major tour. This collaboration feels particularly full-circle.
Alex G
Indie favourite Alex G is credited with additional production on Lost Weekend, having contributed additional production, drums and vocals to her single Lost Boys. The musician is slated to head on tour with Bridgers in just a few months, serving as a special guests.
Christian Lee Hutson
One of Bridgers' closest songwriting collaborators, Christian Lee Hutson returns for Lost Weekend. Having worked extensively with Bridgers across previous releases (and with boygenius), his inclusion continues one of indie music's most enduring creative partnerships. Maya Hawke
Random, we know. But not so random if you know that Hawke recently married Bridgers' long-time collaborator Christian Lee Hutson. Hawke is a credited co-writer on Lost Weekend, specifically co-writing the tracks Haunted and Never Going Back!
Meg Duffy
Known for the project Hand Habits, guitarist and songwriter Meg Duffy joins the album as an instrumental contributor. Duffy and Bridgers are no strangers to each other either – the former has contributed guitar and instrumentation to projects connected to Phoebe Bridgers' inner circle, including work alongside producers and songwriters like Blake Mills, Christian Lee Hutson, and Perfume Genius.
Nick Zinner and Benny Bock
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist adds another layer of indie-rock pedigree to the album, while keyboardist Benny Bock is also among the album's credited musicians.
Jack Antonoff
Appearing as a new collaborator, Jack Antonoff contributed to Lost Weekend in a first-time collaboration with Bridgers. Obviously, his production credits span some of contemporary music's biggest artists – and many of Bridgers' friends – making his addition one of the album's most notable new creative partnerships.
