Designer and co-founder Paris Mitchell Temple on slowing down and beauty secrets

It’s always handy when the people behind the brand are as cool as the brand itself. Case in point is designer and co-founder of New Zealand fashion label Paris Georgia, Paris Mitchell Temple. The New Zealand native shares the native brands she loves, the products she swears by and the fine art of slowing down in a chaotic world.

What is your morning beauty routine?

I don’t cleanse my face every morning, I think sometimes it’s important to give it a break and use a hot flannel instead.

Syrene Aqualight moisturiser is a staple for me, the gel is incredibly soft and refreshing. I have one in my handbag too – I try and use it throughout the day. My gorgeous mum taught me to moisturise regularly.

Osmosis illuminate eye cream (which can be used on lips too) is incredible, it has a way of brightening the eye area and gives a glow, I really like to target this area for anti-aging and I know this product does this efficiently.

I’m not sure if it’s strange to mention my deodorant, but I’m seriously hooked on Aesop’s Herbal Deodorant, the scent is truly divine.

I’m always amazed when a make-up artist finishes my face and how it manages to stay on for so long, when I apply my makeup it seems to fall off within the hour. I discovered this primer that is my latest beauty secret, it’s Laura Mercier’s Pure Canvas Power primer. I finally get the results the makeup artists do.

I won’t leave the house without a spritz of Jo Malone London. Wood Sage and Sea Salt cologne is my favourite.

What is the supermarket/ drug store/ chemist beauty product(s) that you use and love?

I use Bioderma cleanser, I’ll stock up in Paris or get it from my dear friends at Ines Store, they have all the French pharmacy goodies!

What is your night beauty routine?

After cleansing, I use the Drunk Elephant range – the night serum is seriously beautiful and I mix it with the cream moisturiser, I’m drawn to their philosophy – they exclude any question mark ingredients.

I love oils, they sit well with my skin type. Nourish Avocado Facial Oil by Osmosis would be my top pick! This is a must before bed each night.

I tend to wash my hair at night, but I’ll make sure it’s dry before I go to sleep, I use Oribe’s Repair & Restore shampoo and conditioner, followed by their Oribe power drops, my curls love it. It keeps them looking healthy but never oily. My hair has never felt so healthy.

Describe what you do for a living? What does a typical day look like for you?

I’m training myself to take the mornings a little slower, I can have the tendency to let stress get to me and I’ve discovered if I take the mornings slower, nurture my mind and body before I start the day, I’m much more equipped to deal with all the fires we need to put out.

Our studio is chaotic right now as we picked up luxury retailer Net-A-Porter, we’ve had a lot of celebrity press recently too, our business has grown immensely which is exciting!

I spend a full day at the studio designing the following seasons. My husbands in hospitality so we have dinner out a lot or we head to his wine bar Annabel’s often. Our life is filled with incredible family, friends and travel, we know how lucky we are.

What is your main form of beauty body maintenance? What products do you use on your body?

I can be over-indulgent when it comes to nurturing my body, I treat myself every 1-2 weeks, whether it be a massage, facial or a luxurious manicure and pedicure. It’s a form of alone time for me, it resets me. My friends at Spring Spa look after me so well.  When it comes to nurturing my body at home, I use Codage’s Concentrated Body milk.

How do you keep fit/ healthy? Does exercise form a large part of your routine?

I like to start my day with some form of exercise, I’m an F45 member however I like to balance things with a walk or barre class too. I wish I could say I start each day with a swim, I try to!

There’s a movement with inner beauty which I want to learn more about, Georgia and I recently discovered The Beauty Chef’s products from Ines Store which have helped us immensely, the wellness powder is delicious and nutritious and the Ashwagana herbal supplement by Sun Potion was a great find, having your own business is filled with up’s and down’s, it’s so important to keep a calm level head, this product supports emotional and hormonal balance.

What cosmetic procedures/ professional treatments do you have as part of your beauty routine?

I get gentle peels from Prescription Skincare every six months. LED light therapy has also been a game changer, it’s a non-invasive treatment and I can see the results – the before and after photos don’t lie!

You’re tired/ hungover/ rundown: what is your beauty hack?

The ocean! The big blue doctor fixes everything.

What is the one non-negotiable in your beauty routine?

In the summer I’ll never leave the house without my ELTA MDF sunscreen. I believe it’s important to invest in the right sunscreen, especially because it’s something we need to apply here in New Zealand everyday. Elta MDF has chemical-free actives, zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, providing safe but sure sun protection. I always opt for the tinted version, it can be a nice substitute for foundation when your wanting a little coverage.

Do you have a beauty icon? Who are they and why?

I have a lot to thank Brooke Shields (and Mum) for, they always inspired me to never pluck my eyebrows.

What is the best advice on beauty you’ve received?

Moisturise and wear sunblock.

What is the one product you can’t live without?

Sorry it’s two! Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation is an absolute favourite, it’s gentle and you never get that ‘make-up’ look, your skin looks natural and nourished. I use it with Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base – these products compliment each other beautifully.
