Pamela Anderson and Dakota Fanning join forces in Sally Potter’s ‘Alma’

Pamela Anderson's indie renaissance is showing no signs of slowing down. Hot off a Golden Globe and SAG-nominated performance in The Last Showgirl, Anderson is stepping into another lead role, this time opposite Dakota Fanning, in a new feature by cult British filmmaker Sally Potter.

Titled Alma, the film is an unexpected arthouse exploration of a family who gather to scatter their mother's ashes—only to find she hasn’t quite left them alone. Secrets surface, chaos brews, and the past refuses to stay buried. Just the kind of strange beauty we’d expect from Potter. Below, everything we know so far about Alma.

Who is involved in Alma?

Joining Anderson and Fanning is an impressive cast: British actor Lindsay Duncan, Arinzé Kene, Esmé Creed-Miles, Earl Cave, plus newcomer Esther McGregor, and more to come.

Speaking about the cast, Potter said: “Looking for the alchemical mix of great screen presences to bring a script into vivid life can feel like a treasure hunt. Three of the cinematic jewels now set to be at the centre of the cast of ‘Alma’ are Pamela Anderson, Dakota Fanning and Lindsay Duncan … three brilliant actors I have wanted to work with for some time."

Off camera, Potter is joined by her longstanding collaborator, producer Christopher Sheppard of Adventure Pictures, plus Rebecca O’Brien of Sixteen Films.

Executive producing the project is Stephen Kelliher from Bankside Films, who said, “It’s an honour to work with Sally on this brilliantly clever, funny and poignant story of a family in conflict at the most sensitive of times. Sally’s script is endlessly entertaining and the cast she has drawn to the project speaks for itself. We can’t wait for audiences to enjoy it.”

When will Alma come out?

Release details are yet to be released, but with the cast only just locked in, we'd guess it will be at least 2026 before this one premieres.

The film is set to begin shooting in England this September, with Bankside Films reportedly be taking it to buyers at Cannes. We'll keep you updated.
