It looks like Quentin Tarantino is headed back to the drawing board, with news of a sequel to his 2019 hit, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The original movie, set in 1969 Los Angeles, was a nostalgic love letter to the golden age of Hollywood, featuring Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), his stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), and the tragic story of Sharon Tate (Margot Robbie).
Now, we're set to hone in on Pitt's character, with a film titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth — and it's officially begun streaming. Below, everything you need to know.
Not everyone from Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is back — including Tarantino
In a departure from the original, the spin-off isn't actually directed by Tarantino. While he did write the script, the director's chair is instead occupied by David Fincher (best known for Gone Girl, The Social Network, and Fight Club) this time around.
On camera, Pitt is the only star set to reprise his role, though he's joined by a new cast in Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino and JB Tadena.
What is the The Adventures of Cliff Booth about?
There's really no word on what the film will follow, but Tarantino is known for keeping his plots unpredictable, so it’s safe to say fans should expect fresh twists and developments in the next chapter. The only real details we have came from an interview with Michael B. Jordan for Deadline, where he noted that the movie follows Pitt's character as "a Hollywood studio fixer", and takes place some time after the events of the first film.
It's also been reported that the upcoming project isn't a direct sequel to Once Upon a Time, but rather a “derivative” project that takes inspiration from it.
When would the Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood sequel premiere?
With the outline of the film only just taking shape, it's too soon to know exactly when it will hit our screens. We do know that filming has now begun, and that the final product will be distributed by Netflix. We'll keep you updated as we know more.
