‘Obsession’ might be the ultimate man repeller film according to Letterboxd

Be careful what you wish for…because it just might come true. But if what you wished for was your new favourite horror film, then you’re in luck.

Obsession is latest horror film taking over the internet and for all the right and wrong reasons is a movie that will make you say, “I’m suddenly very okay with being single” – at least according to one Letterboxd user.

It's produced by Blumhouse Productions, one of the industry’s leading independent horror production companies, and follows the story of Bear, played by Michael Johnston, a hopelessly in-love man whose crush, Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette, doesn’t feel the same way. When desperate times call for desperate measures, Bear places his final hope in what appears to be a child’s toy called One Wish Willow. The instructions are simple: break the stick, make your deepest wish, and it will come true. But while his wish may be granted, everything comes at a price, and the one he has to pay might be far greater than he ever expected.

Naturally, when I first heard about this film, I turned to the ultimate trust barometer to see if it was really worth the hype: Letterboxd. With an impressive average rating of 4.2 out of 5 across 261k viewers, it’s one of the highest-rated horror films on the platform. And while we don’t want to spoil too much – because, after all, a horror film’s magic lies in the unexpected – we thought we’d round up some of our favourite Letterboxd reviews of Obsession.

Think of this as your persuasion, or perhaps your warning, to watch the film. But be warned: while we’ve tried to avoid spoilers, there may still be a few lurking ahead. Below, find our curated list of our favourite Letterboxd reviews.
