It's been just over a month since Obsession hit theatres globally, but there is quite literally no sign of our collective obsession slowing down. The film has already grossed more than $224 million worldwide — putting it on track to become Focus Features' biggest film of all time, and making it the highest grossing horror of 2026. Did Curry Barker crack his own One Wish Willow? Because it's safe to say we're all obsessed.

While we know Barker is signed with Blumhouse Productions for his next film, Anything but Ghosts, which is reportedly set in the same universe as Obsession, as well as A24's The Texas Chainsaw Movie, we can't help but wonder if an Obsession sequel might also be on his agenda? After all, Barker recently told Deadline that there's a "plot hole" in the film that he wants to explore further.

Here, we're breaking down everything we know about Obsession 2 – and how the franchise could evolve into an anthology series.

Curry Barker himself said an Obsession sequel makes sense

Across multiple interviews and sources, Barker has discussed the idea that Obsession taps into the notion that some things – such as love –must be earned, and that wishing for them can come with unforeseen consequences. In a recent interview, Barker said, "There's concepts for a sequel for this movie, or even an anthology TV show. Who knows? I'm not saying anything, but I'm just saying you never know what could happen."

Barker elaborated to Deadline, "I obviously have a couple more things that I'm excited about next, but I do see Obsession 2, maybe. Or even what really is exciting to me is maybe an anthology, like a one-hour episode." At this stage, it all seems speculative – and who can blame him? He's still rightfully enjoying the success of the first film. However, there does appear to be at least vague plans for more from the Obsession universe. “I have such a cool idea for it that I won’t say," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "I’m not saying it has to be five, six years from now. But I think people would be just as excited for it if it came a little down the road. It’s a whirlwind and I’m trying to figure it out.”

What we do know for certain is that Barker's next film, Anything but Ghosts, will continue within the world of Obsession. During a press conference, Barker revealed that the film will feature One Wish Willow, as well as a news article about a woman who has committed a triple homicide.

There's certainly a lot to unpack here, but it seems clear that Barker's creative momentum is continuing and that ideas are flowing.

Would the sequel continue the story line of Nikki?

Well, if Anything but Ghosts reveals that Nikki (played by Inde Navarrette) goes to jail, then there might not be much to add to her storyline. With most of the other characters having died in Obsession, the story would need to continue in a different way – and Barker seems to think so too.

One plot hole Barker told Deadline he is keen to explore is the One Wish Willow. He explained, "If the One Wish Willow actually works – which it does in this lore – and people are making wishes left and right, there would be some crazy consequences. Dragons would exist, for example. But none of that happens. The world is pretty normal from what we see in this movie, so it doesn't really make sense."

So what might a sequel involve? Barker has suggested that he would love to invite other filmmakers to put their own spin on the concept of the One Wish Willow. This could lead to a new spinoff with each installment, or even stories set in alternate realities. Perhaps Obsession 2 wouldn't be a traditional sequel or prequel at all, but rather an anthology series – a gateway to a new franchise featuring a different story in every episode.

When would Obsession 2 be released?

At this point as there has been no official confirmation on an Obsession 2, we can't confirm a release date. However, if a sequel were to happen, we'd guess the earliest it would arrive would be 2028. We'll keep you updated.
