Today marks a major milestone for Aotearoa (New Zealand) — and Oceania more broadly. For the first time, the iconic Michelin Guide has expanded into the region, with New Zealand becoming the first country in the area to be recognised by the world's most influential restaurant guide.

Even if you don't consider yourself a foodie, chances are you've heard of the Michelin Guide. Since its inception in France more than a century ago, earning a place within its pages has become the highest accolade a restaurant can receive. A single Michelin star can transform a restaurant, while three stars places it among the very best dining destinations in the world.

Until now, Oceania has remained notably absent from the guide. That changes today, with the Michelin Guide Restaurant Ceremony taking place, to reveal which 100 spots across Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown have earned recognition.
