2026 is absolutely The New York Knicks' year. After more than half a century of waiting, the team ended a 53-year title drought this month with a nail-biting NBA Finals victory, sparking celebrations across New York (and serious FOMO amongst those of us watching on from our phones), and cementing one of the most improbable comeback stories in recent basketball history.

Now, the Knicks are getting the A24 treatment.

Longtime Knicks fan Ben Stiller has revealed he is directing a new multi-part documentary series about the franchise in partnership with A24, HBO and the NBA. We spotted Stiller filming courtside with his phone at several recent games this year, and now it all makes sense. Here's what we know.

What will it be about?

The project is a documentary, not a feature film.

Speaking on The Roommates Show podcast, Stiller explained that the series will explore every era of Knicks basketball, charting the highs, lows and defining moments, from the beloved teams of the 1990s to the long road back to championship glory.

"There’s a culmination here of something that has been going on for a long time, so it’s super exciting,” Stiller said. “And it’s great to have had all this access to your team, and we’re gonna probably be shooting a little bit more during next season.”

The Severance director also said to expect interviews with several players, adding, “I could not be more excited. This is a dream project, so cannot wait,” he added.

His excitement is valid, with Stiller being one of the most devoted high profile fans of The Knicks out there (sorry, Timmy).

When will the New York Knicks documentary be released?

An official release date has not yet been announced. With filming expected to continue into next season, the documentary remains in the early stages of production. We'll keep you updated.
