What they’re wearing at New York Fashion Week AW26

If there’s one thing New York does well, it’s getting dressed. And perhaps nowhere is that skill best demonstrated than during fashion week.

Despite the city shivering through a particularly icy (and at times, snowy) stretch, Autumn Winter 2026 has felt especially energised. If New Yorkers have taught us anything this season, it’s that temperature is beside the point. All you really need is a great coat — the bigger the better — and a pair of even bigger sunglasses, and you’re good to go.

It follows that outerwear has done most of the talking when it comes to street style this season, from dramatic floor-length styles, to boxy bombers, and faux fur-trimmed styles that cinch at the waist. Underneath, the formulas were classic New York: sharp suiting, slinky knits, sheer skirts worn with knee-high boots. Practical, yes, but never boring.

On the runways, designers have been circling similar ideas. Ralph Lauren kicked off the week by doubling down on heritage codes like equestrian-inspired accessories and polished eveningwear. Carolina Herrera brought timeless elegance to sharp tailoring, fused with a 60s-inspired edge, while Coach leant into classic Americana style, with an homage to the brand's hometown of New York City.

But while the runways set the tone at Fashion Week, the real mood played out on the pavement. And as Australians enter the tail end of the summer, there's never been a better time to stay across the best looks from NYFW. For an influx of impeccable winter wardrobe inspiration, we're bringing you the best street style moments from New York Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2026, below.
