The New Moon in Gemini wants you to be open to new opportunities

At the crest of the daylight hours on 27 May – at 1:02pm AEST – we greet our May New Moon. It will be a moment of mental cleanse, as New Moons always present us with the opportunity to begin anew. Here, we will see the Moon falling in Air sign Gemini, emboldening our ability to adapt to change. If life has felt sluggish, think of this as the cosmic push you’ve been waiting for. Here's what to expect.

What you need to know about May's New Moon in Gemini

This New Moon comes with a helpful reset for those who have been craving momentum. New Moons represent the end of the old Moon Cycle, bring the past themes to a close and allowing us to start the new cycle with a clean slate. Where the Full Moon brings energy and culmination, the New Moon offers stillness and beginnings. It is for this reason that New Moons are said to be the best time to engage in manifestations. This is the moment to keep your intentions close to hand; write in a journal, speak them allowed or whatever helps you keep yourself fixed on your goals.

The previous Moon Cycle was dominated by the luxurious but languid energy of Taurus, with moments of solitude and deep sensitivity brought about by the Full Moon. But here, we enter Gemini season and the Moon and Sun meet in the sign of the twins to fortify the refreshing qualities of the New Moon. A new wave of optimism and confidence is coming.

Gemini is a perplexing sign. It is highly adaptable, openly embracing change and newness, preferring this over the boredom that comes with stagnation. A natural communicator, Gemini is social, flirty and naturally curious. As such, when the Moon falls in Gemini, we become more open to new experiences and socialising. Even the most introverted of us can feel encouraged to get out of the house and connect with those around them. If you have a packed calendar ahead, the influence of the Gemini Moon will have you ready to kick your inner hermit to the curb and wholly enjoy any and all social activity.

How to make the most of the New Moon in Gemini

You'll get the most out of this New Moon if you let curiosity lead the way. Be open to learning, to change, and to new connections. Loosen up and remember that saying yes opens up a world of new opportunities.

The previous month was dominated by the energy of the fixed signs, notably Taurus and Scorpio who prefer comfort, sameness and introspection. The period over the New Moon will bring the complete opposite, with the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Jupiter all in Gemini. There will be similarly strong Aries placements; with Venus, Saturn, Neptune and also Chiron all dwelling in our planet of action and passion.

This heavy combination of Air and Fire has the potential to put wind to embers, fuelling fresh energy into creative or business projects. Venus in Aries in particular could turn up the flames where your love life is concerned, reigniting lost loves or maybe sending a fling your way. But it also has the potential to add volatility and turn even small disagreements into full blown arguments. In particular, our steady and pragmatic Earth signs will have to relinquish their stubbornness if they wish to avoid all out rows.

While those of us with strong Water and Earth placements can feel at odds with such a heady combination of opposing zodiac elements, the best advice is just to relinquish control and enjoy the moment. A change of scenery was needed to carry us optimistically into the rest of the year. Embrace the change, get out of the house and watch how things around you begin to turn in your favour.
