7 nail trends to carry you into 2023

nail trends 2023

Welcome to the end of 2022, it's been a big year of big nails! As nail art becomes an increasingly sharp focal point in the beauty landscape, nail trends have changed the way we think about our trip to the nail salon. This year was the year of the glazed donut nail, among other viral moments, a trend that we predict will carry through to 2022. As new trends emerge and fan favourites hold steady, we're predicting, below, the nail trends in 2023 that are going to reign over our consciousness for months.

Soft Chrome

Coined "Hailey Bieber nails" or "glazed doughnut nails" by the masses, the soft chrome nail trend has been one of the most viral nail trends this year. Considering the classic nature of the soft, pearlescent finish and the fact that everything "frosted" is a byproduct of Y2K revival, we don't see this nail trend going anywhere in 2023.

Velvet Illusion

Taking over social media feeds has been velvet illusion nails, a hybrid of – you guessed it – velvet nails and illusion manicures. Set to continue into 2023, this three-dimensional manicure gives the illusion of light and shadows on the nails with the added optical effect of shimmery, magnetic-looking polish.

Molten Metal

Coined by Bettina Goldstein, the molten metal trend is a minimalists nail art dream. If Dua Lipa's viral chrome checkered nails are a little loud for your liking, these dainty drops of chrome may be more your speed.

Muted Aura

If 2022 was the year of experimenting with neon aura nails, 2023 is the year of the muted or tonal aura nail. Think: soft blues, maroon reds, sage greys, et al.

Line work

In a bid to make everything feel a bit more graphic, irregular, sharp line work is taking over out feeds. Whether the lines are coloured or chrome, we can see this nail trend lasting into the new year.

Satin nails

These textured nails, layered with chrome pigment, give off the look of sheets of silk, and have been filling our feeds in the past months. With a strong trend that leans towards chrome and metallics, we know this one will be in our saved folder for a while.

Minimal french

For all the short nail girlies out there, the minimal french tip trend isn't going away! Be it a classic white or a bright neon like the above, dainty iterations of the French manicure are here to stay, and it's one of our enduring favourites.
