
After many years of a stagnant electric car market, Australia is finally getting access to some truly exciting new models. 2025 in particular revolutionised the state of EVs in Australia, and 2026 is set to go even further.
There are more new brands and new models than ever entering Australia, offering exciting, luxurious and innovative electric cars at accessible price points. It's never made more sense to move away from petrol and into an electrified future. While there are several dozen new EVs arriving on-shore this year, we've curated a list of the most highly anticipated new launches. The ones set to disrupt the space and set chins wagging. Below, find our list of the most exciting new electric vehicles coming to Australia in 2026.
Volvo EX60

After last year's EX90 launch, it's easy to understand why the EX60 is one of the most hotly anticipated car launches of 2026. Volvo was one of the first car makers to plunge headfirst into electrifying its fleet; understanding that its heritage of "safety first" cannot exist in world facing the ravages of climate change. The EX60 is the fully electric successor to the XC60, and sits in between the EX40 and EX90 in terms of size. Details are scarce but we're expecting a Q2-Q3 launch, with Volvo's website highlighting a last 2026 drop.

Porsche Cayenne Electric

We've been waiting with bated breath, but we finally know that the electric Cayenne is coming around in the third quarter of 2026. The Cayenne was Porsche's very first SUV, a marked evolution for the brand. Now, we're being reintroduced to the luxury design we know but in a reimagined form, with some wildly impressive new features like wireless charging.

Lexus RZ

The Lexus RZ gets a hot new facelift in 2026. This model was the brand's first dedicated battery electric vehicle, a sleek and polished sedan with all the bells and whistles you expect from Lexus. In 2026, the RZ gets a makeover, with a new design language that emphasises the car's tech-first and electrified identity. According to the Lexus website, we can expect this new look model in 2026 but no specific date has been confirmed.

Zeekr 7X

Zeekr is arguably one of the biggest disruptors in the entire automotive space. The number of features combined with the luxurious fit out and European design is jaw-dropping when you discover the accessibility of the price point. The 7X is the brand's follow up to the X, a larger and more elegant design aimed more towards the family segment of the market. Arrivals of this car began to drop in October 2025 and we can expect a 2026 model with a gentle facelift to appear at the tail end of 2026.

Cupra Born VZ

This hotted-up hatch is already widely available in other parts of the world and Australia should finally see models become available in mid-2026. Cupra's USP is it's design-led brand ethos; this brand is an innovator in the realm of aesthetics. The Born is a true embodiment of the brand identity; young, zippy with a sporty-cool design. We're still waiting on news of a official release but this car is widely expected to appear in 2026.

Audi Q5 e-hybrid

One of the best looking cars on the road, the Audi Q5 e-hybrid embodies classic European elegance. This is one of Australia's most popular luxury SUVs reimagined as an electrified icon. It's built on Audi's updated platform, with a more powerful electric motor and a substantially larger battery. For a plug-in hybrid, the range is impressive. Expect tyres to hit the road in Australia in early 2026, you've probably already seen some.

BYD Atto 1

This launch is set to disrupt the entire EV space in Australia. It's positioned as the soon-to-be most price-point accessible electric vehicle in Australia. The Atto is expected to significantly lift EV adoption across the country, with a flow on effect to enhanced infrastructure. This compact four-seater hatch was set to arrive in December 2025, but most deliveries have an early 2026 timing.

Cadillac Vistiq

Cadillac is still a relatively new player in Australia and its new Vistiq is set to offer a luxurious SUV option for families. Bold. yet elegant, this is a 7-seated fitted out with everything you need for school runs or even road trips. This is a vehicle that has been designed around comfort in every aspect. Expect to start seeing these on road in late 2026

Chery “Aussie Workhorse” Truck

Chery’s so-called “Monster Truck” or "Aussie Workhorse" doesn't yet have a name, but it's already made plenty of waves in the automotive space. A light-commercial ute with a plug in hybrid/diesel engine is not just rare, it's actually a world-first. Light-commercial trucks or utes are some of the most popular cars in Australia, with models like the Toyota Hilux and the Ford Range being amongst the top sellers every single month. So a beefy and bold option with an electrified soul is sure to ruffle some feathers in the best possible way. Expect this one to land in Q4 of 2026.

Kia EV4

It's hard to deny that Kia's EV cars are some of the best looking new cars on the road. Fans of the Australian Open would have been privy to the Kia EV4, which was on show at the tennis this year. The EV4 expands Kia’s EV lineup, offering a new accessible, mainstream option with a future-facing design. First deliveries started in January 2026

Range Rover Electric

It's been a long-time coming, but we're hearing more whispers about the potential launch of a fully electric Range Rover in 2026. The brand currently offers mild hybrids and plug-in hybrids but has yet to introduce a fully electrified model in Australia. Very few details are available, but Which Car notes that we can expect a 2026 launch.

Geely EX2

For those who are unfamiliar, Geely is part of the same automotive group as Volvo, Polestar and Zeekr, so it carries some of the same quiet-luxury and safetu design principles. The EX2 is expected to offer an accessible entry point to Geely, as a smaller SUV with a hatch. First deliveries and showroom appearances will begin in Q3 of 2026.

Jaguar GT

This luxury, four-door grand tourer was inspired by great models of the past. When Jaguar's engineers set our to conceive this new model for Jaguar, they revisited iconic drives like the E-type, XJS and XJ series. When the essence of these designs was distilled, the engineering team created the Jaguar GT, an all electric car. Expect more information on this one in September 2026

Genesis GV60 Magma

This is the very first vehicle to be production-ready under the Magma banner – which is Genesis' performance sub-brand. This is not your average SUV, it's a high-performance car that comes in head-turning colours for those who like to drive fast. It's set to be a new flagship model in the sports-luxury space and one of the first generations of EVs in the performance space. Coming at an undisclosed date in 2026.

Honda Prelude

Allow us to reintroduce the Honda Prelude. After 25 years, it now returns as a hybrid coupe. It's probably one of the most nostalgic car makes for many people, and it's modern electrification gives it some new oomph. Expect to start seeing this one on the road sooner rather than later in 2026.

Nissan Leaf

2026 sees us being introduced the third generation of the Nissan Leaf, a car quite unlike the ones before it. What was a small hatch is now more like a compact SUV with an elegant sloping roofline. The initial images are impressive to say the least. This car offers an accessible entry point for those wanting to an EV without compromising on quality or trust, like that offered by Nissan's 10-year warranty.

Polestar 5

This is Polestar's answer to the grand tourer; a prestige sports sedan with almost no luxury spared. Its a performance vehicle that translates the Scandinavian design codes of the brand into something edgier. This is an electric car specifically made for those who like to drive fast. The Polestar 5 first deliveries are expected for early to mid-2026.

Volkswagen California PHEV

Yes, Volkswagen has made an electric camper van. Peak nostalgia takes a new electrified form in this spiritual successor to the Kombi. The California is a plug-in hybrid EV that is likely to be one of the most luxurious camper vans you've ever seen. It's been built for long summer days and longer weekends. It fits everything and the kitchen sink – literally, it has a kitchen. Features include fridge, gas cooker, pop-up roof, foldable desk and most of the other ammenities you need to weekend in style. This one was originally expected to hit Australia in 2025 but is likely to arrive in the second half of 2026.

Farizon V7E

Farizon's V7E is a commercial vehicle, a van designed for logistics and practicality. EVs are still relatively new to the commercial cars space for valid reasons, but the technology is now at the point where it makes sense to electrify cargo fleets. This is not typically a consumer car, but represents an exciting and more luxurious turn for logistics-focused transport. Coming May 2026.
