After 16 years away, Massive Attack are finally making their return to Australia.
The influential British group have announced a three-date Australian tour this August, bringing their acclaimed live show to Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. The tour marks their first Australian performances since 2010.
For anyone unfamiliar, Massive Attack was formed in Bristol in 1988, and helped pioneer the trip-hop movement — a blend of hip-hop, dub, soul and electronic music genres — creating an entirely unique sound with an influence that has spanned generations. And if you need a refresher, across five studio albums, the group have produced some of the most enduring tracks of the last three decades, including Unfinished Sympathy, Teardrop, Angel and Protection.
The announcement also comes shortly after the release of Boots on the Ground, Massive Attack's first new music in six years. The track marks the latest chapter for a band that continues to evolve more than 35 years after it first emerged from Bristol's underground music scene.
When is Massive Attack touring Australia?
The band will perform at:
- Brisbane Riverstage, on August 19
- Melbourne Sidney Myer Music Bowl, on August 21
- Sydney ICC Sydney Theatre, on August 23
At this stage, there's no word on whether additional dates or cities will be added across the country. But as other major international acts have demonstrated, if demand is high enough, often more shows will follow suit. Watch this space.
When do Massive Attack tickets go on sale?
Presale tickets will be available from June 4, via Frontier Touring.
General sale begins on June 5, via Ticketek.
It's a fairly significant moment for Aussie fans. Massive Attack have only toured Australia a handful of times throughout their career, making this a rare opportunity to see one of modern music's most influential acts live. In other words, have your card details prepped and account logged in early, because we expect these will sell very quickly.
