It's (nearly) that time of year again. From 13 February to 1 March 2026, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Festival returns — brighter, bolder and louder than ever — inviting everyone to revel in a new kind of euphoria. This year’s theme, ECSTATICA, is a rallying call to gather, connect and transform individual joy into a powerful collective movement.

Now in its 48th year, Mardi Gras remains one of the world’s most iconic celebrations of pride and protest — a festival that unites communities across generations, cultures and identities. “Ecstatica is what happens when you find your people,” says interim CEO Jesse Matheson. And in 2026, Sydney is once again ready to turn that feeling into something electric.

Whether you’re here to dance until dawn, march with your chosen family, or simply soak in the joy that spills over into just about every corner of the city, Mardi Gras 2026 promises a to be an impeccable time. Here's what you need to know about next year's program.

When is Sydney Mardi Gras 2026?

This year’s festival runs from Friday, 13 February through to Sunday, 1 March 2026, transforming Sydney into a month-long playground of pride, creativity and community.

When is the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade in 2026?

Arguably the beating heart of the festival, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade will return on Saturday, 28 February 2026, filling Oxford Street, Flinders Street and Anzac Parade with 200 floats, and over 12,000 marchers.

Parade applications are open now at mardigras.org.au

Where to watch the Sydney Mardi Gras parade in 2025?

It should hardly come as a surprise by now that a good viewing spot is hotly sought after. Beat the crowds and secure your vantage point with tickets to a dedicated viewing area.

What else is happening during Mardi Gras 2026?

Before the parade, Fair Day will kick off celebrations on Sunday, 15 February 2026, filling Victoria Park with a full day of live music, food, market stalls and family-friendly fun. It’s one of the biggest community gatherings of the year.

Elsewhere across the city, expect parties, performances, exhibitions, panels and pop-ups, curated by Sydney’s incredible LGBTQIA+ community. From rooftop raves and drag brunches to queer art showcases and live talks, Mardi Gras 2026 will once again prove that pride extends far beyond just a single night. You can keep up to date with all the goings on, here.
