In partnership with Luv Lou
Few names are as synonymous with great style like Cyd Morris. The designer is not only the brains behind the impossibly perfect and effortlessly chic vintage-inspired pieces at Stone Cold Fox, but is also a skilled interiors stylist, having recently launched The Foxalow, a side-hustle born from the restoration of her home in Venice and Pacific Palisades, California. And now, she's adding sunglass designer to her stacked resume, with a collaboration with Australian sunglasses brand, Luv Lou.
The partnership makes perfect sense. Though Morris hails from the US, she's cultivated a close relationship with Australia over the years, with her husband, Ollie, originally calling Down Under home.
"My husband grew up with the girls from Luv Lou," Morris recalls to RUSSH. "He told me about the brand years and years ago and I always wore the frames — I loved them so much. They reached out to me about a potential collab over a year ago and I was ecstatic to work with them on a project together."
It wasn't long before the partnership came to life, with Morris dreaming up a total of six chic everyday styles. There's a series of three thicker, statement-making frames in black, warm beige, and muted tortoiseshell. Then, the same hues have also been translated to a thinner shape, perfect for those who prefer a lighter, more delicate silhouette.
In honour of the collection launching, RUSSH sat down with Morris to chat all things designing the collection. Read our conversation in full, and get acquainted with each pair, below.
What was the design process for this collection? Did it differ to how you approach ideating for Stone Cold Fox?
It was actually quite similar. We looked at a lot of vintage frames — which I do as well for clothing — and took small details and added them to a more modern updated frame. We went over lens shades and what I love to wear, as well as different shapes and how they sit on the face, and what we really thought was missing in the market today.
Do you have a favourite piece in the collection?
I love each style so much as they all go so well with different looks. I would probably say my favourite of them all is the Imogen in Blush. I love to wear those indoors especially when you have a make up free face and just have to run out the door — these are a perfect pair to throw on.
If you could describe the collection in three words, what would they be?
Feminine, light, and flirtatious.
You’re a style icon in your own right – do you have any rules for putting together an outfit? How do you incorporate accessories like sunglasses into a look?
I think putting outfits together sort of comes naturally to me and adding a sunglass to any look is like the cherry on top. I love an all white outfit with a dark frame (like the Imogen in wine), or I love the Fox frames with a baseball hat and activewear. Even when you don’t feel like putting much effort into a look, a really beautiful frame can tie it all together and make it more elevated, instantly.
What inspired you most when designing this collection?
Basically designing frames I wanted in my life! I loved the idea of doing one cat eye with a thicker frame because the shape looks good on absolutely everyone’s face shape. It wakes your face up, they look gorgeous with your hair up or down and really capture that feminine feeling. I also wanted to do a wire frame because I love easy they are to wear and how light they feel on your face. It’s a little nod to the 90s look but we added a bit of a cat eye shape to the ‘Fox’ which is super unique.
