Our first look at Drew Starkey as Anya Taylor-Joy’s husband in new series, ‘Lucky’

'Lucky' adaptation

In the crossover we never knew we needed, Drew Starkey is starring opposite Anya Taylor-Joy in Apple TV's hotly-anticipated Lucky,. It's the actor's next move after the fifth and final season of Outer Banks, and his latest role following his star-making turn in Luca Guadagnino's Queer.

If Starkey's casting wasn’t enough to whet your appetite, Lucky is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon, whose production company Hello Sunshine was behind recent hits like Morning Wars, Daisy Jones & The Six, and Big Little Lies, to name only a few.

Below, everything we know so far.

What is Lucky about?

The official synopsis for the series certainly has our interest piqued. It says Taylor-Joy “stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.” Of course, Taylor-Joy has proven herself adept at these darker storylines, having previously starred in hits like The Menu, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Split over the years.

Starkey has landed himself a major recurring role, playing Cary, Lucky’s (Taylor-Joy) husband.

Who else is involved in Lucky?

Starkey concludes the major cast, which also includes Annette Bening, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor and Timothy Olyphant.

We also know that Taylor-Joy and Witherspoon are both on board as executive producers. As for why she took on the project (which was first a select for her book club), Witherspoon said, “Reese’s Book Club began with the goal of deepening connections – to the stories, to the storytellers, and to the community we are building. It is incredibly rewarding to be able to amplify these female-centric stories and their authors, see our community connect with them, then see them take on a whole new life on screen."

Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas are charged with adapting the book for the screen, and will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers.
