Few romances have been dissected, mythologised, mood-boarded and romanticised quite like that of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy. In addition to being impossibly chic, the pair were famously private — but that hasn't stopped the world from scrutinising them. Now, their relationship has been brought back into focus thanks to Ryan Murphy, whose show Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette has finally landed on our TVs.
Set in 1990s New York, the series traces the couple’s courtship, engagement and secret wedding, before charting the suffocating media attention that followed them until their tragic deaths in 1999. Inspired by author Elizabeth Beller’s biography of Bessette, the show leans into the tension between public spectacle and private love — with plenty of minimalist ’90s fashion moments along the way.
The famous couple are played by relative newcomers Paul Anthony Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon, whose chemistry is palpable in the roles of JFK Jr. and Bessette. They're also joined by Naomi Watts as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Meryl Streep's daughter Grace Gummer as Caroline Kennedy.
