Artist Kymie shares her beauty non-negotiables and why exercise is self care

Kymie

Sydney artist Kymie is all about keeping it simple. With her new single Name just hitting the airwaves and her latest EP out this week on December 3, she doesn't have a whole lot of time for fuss.

We caught up with this rapper and r&b artist to talk about life, self care and what's in her beauty bag. She told us all about her beauty favourites, her love of bold nails and the best health advice she's ever received.

What is your morning beauty routine?

First thing I do is wash my face with cold water and foam up with Summer Fridays super amino gel cleanser. I then pat on Sunday Riley A+ High-Dose Retinoid Serum under my eyes and to moisturise I use Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream.

What is your night beauty routine?

My night routine is exactly what my morning routine is, it was only this year that I got into skincare - I know I am super late to it but better late than never. I prefer to keep it quite simple.

Describe what you do for a living? What does a typical day look like for you?

I make music. However I still have a few side hustles, I know one day soon I can make music full time. A typical day for me, honestly I don't think I have a typical day but something that never changes for me, I have an espresso shot with a dash of coconut oil everyday and either I go to the gym or I’ll go for a long walk. If it’s a music day I’m most likely heading to the studio somewhere in Sydney or I’ll just head out to my garage and create from home.

What is the supermarket/ drug store/ chemist beauty product(s) that you use and love?

I absolutely love Neutrogena’s oil-free eye make-up remover! Nothing takes off waterproof mascara. I will forever have this in my cupboard and toiletry bag.

What is your main form of beauty body maintenance?

I want to say moisturising my whole body, since I was about seven years old I have religiously moisturised my entire body after every shower.

What products do you use on your body?

Currently I’m using QV Skin Lotion which repairs skin, I’m wanting to find an environmentally-friendly body moisturiser but I’m yet to find one that I love.

How do you keep fit/ healthy? Does exercise form a large part of your routine?

Exercise is a large part of my life, I have always loved being active, I have to be physical on the daily whether that’s high intensity or low I need to do something. I also drink at least two to three litres of water a day and eat in moderation. I also try to increase my vegetable intake.

What procedures or professional treatments do you have as part of your beauty routine?

I don’t get any professional treatments for my face, however I do get laser hair removal and I love getting my nails done.

What do you do when your body needs to recover?

Drink water and rest, I will sometimes soak my body in epsom salt. And I love sleep.

You’re tired or rundown: what is your beauty hack?

Concealer! Apply a little concealer and boom you look fresh, anything to hide those dark circles.

What is the one non-negotiable in your beauty routine?

Face moisturiser.

Do you have a beauty icon? Who are they and why?

Rihanna! I admire everything she does from Fenty Beauty to Fenty Skin, she is a goddess.

What is the best advice on beauty you’ve received?

Best advice for me is wash your face and body with cold water to keep your pores closed which will then help you from ageing.

What is the best advice on health you’ve received?

Drink water, keep your body moving because motion is lotion. As cheesy as that sounds it is so true.

What is the one product you can’t live without?

Dermal Lip Balm - I’m low-key addicted and I don’t know if that is a good thing, but I have five around the house because I neeeeeed it.
