Kristen Stewart's "stoner girl comedy" The Wrong Girls has found its cast, and we are so ready. The actress is switching gears to go behind the camera, producing what she described as a "really fucking stupid" screenplay with her fiancé, screenwriter Dylan Meyer. And honestly, it's about time we realised how funny K Stew really is – a fact that's so often overlooked by way of her serious acting roles and demure press-tour demeanour.
The film will be the second scripted by Stewart, following hot on the heels of her directorial debut The Chronology of Water, a film based on the memoir by Lidia Yuknavitch (and we really mean HOT on the heels of, as The Chronology of Water is still in development).
Below, get acquainted with the upcoming project, including the cast that will bring Stewart and Meyer's story to life.
Who is cast in The Wrong Girls?
Stewart isn't leaving behind acting all together — she's set to lead the cast. She'll be joined by Alia Shawkat, who previously acted alongside Stewart in The Runaways back in 2010. The ensemble is rounded out by Seth Rogan, Kumail Nanjiani, LaKeith Stanfield, Zack Fox, and Tony Hale.
What is the film about?
According to IndieWire, the film follows Frankie (Stewart) and Molly (Shawkat), two codependent best friends who are living paycheck to paycheck and bong rip to bong rip, when a case of mistaken identity throws their lives into chaos.
It's still early days, so with not much else yet revealed about the project, all we have to go on is Stewart's commentary that the film is a 'stoner girl comedy' that's 'really fucking stupid'. We'll keep you updated as we hear more.
When will it be released?
Production officially began on The Wrong Girls in February, 2025, with 29 days of shooting scheduled in total. There's no theatrical release date yet, but we're hoping it's not too long before we get to watch this one.
