Kit Connor could enter the world of ‘Elden Ring’ in Alex Garland and A24’s dark fantasy film

British actor Kit Connor's next role could be taking him in a much darker direction. Following the critical success of Warfare, director Alex Garland is reportedly eyeing Connor for a starring role in his next project: a live-action adaptation of the genre-defining video game, Elden Ring.

Though no formal offer has been made, Variety has reported that Connor is firmly on Garland’s radar. The reunion would mark a significant career pivot for Connor, who is best known for his tender, emotionally nuanced turn as Nick Nelson in Netflix’s Heartstopper.  So, with the finale of Heartstopper around the corner, will he be trading rugby jerseys for crumbling cathedrals and cursed swords? Let's investigate.

What is Elden Ring about?

The film is based on the video game by the same name, which was released back in 2022. If, like the RUSSH team, you're unfamiliar, put briefly, the game is set in a ruined, mythic realm called 'The Lands Between', and follows a player-character known as the Tarnished who, having been exiled, returns to the land to seek power, reclaim their reputation, and ultimately become the Elden Lord. Amidst all this, the world has been thrown into chaos after the destruction of the Elden Ring, a mysterious and sacred force that governed the natural order.

The game has had serious popularity over the years, selling over 30 million units, and winning multiple Game of The Year awards. Could an adaptation follow in the footsteps of The last Of Us? We'll be watching closely.

Who is involved?

Garland is writing and directing the adaptation — his most recent project since Warfare. It's also being backed by A24 and Japanese publisher Bandai Namco, with George R. R. Martin, the world-builder behind Game of Thrones, on board as co-creator.
