As the chef behind some of Sydney’s most celebrated restaurants, Jordan Toft knows a thing or two about creating an environment people want to return to. And his knack for hospitality doesn't stop when the restaurant doors close. At home, it translates into a space that feels organised without being overly precious, and comfortable enough to properly switch off. It’s also a philosophy that has become all the more important since becoming a dad.
“My home is, and needs to be, a comforting environment where my family and I feel at peace," he tells RUSSH. "Perfection is unachievable, but a home and the space it encompasses needs to represent me, needs to be an extension of my personality. I want my home to be a place where I can decompress when I enter it, where the style and use of space provides a positive energy. Having recently introduced a new small human into the environment, it doesn't change that same need, it simply evolves it.”

That same thinking extends to the way Toft entertains at home. The aim is to create a space that can accommodate a dinner with friends, a quiet night with family and everything in between. “Curated, but not so much that relaxation can't be achieved. Organised, where everything has its home but somewhere that can be enjoyed, dishevelled, then easily reset," he says.
Speaking of the ability to enjoy a space without worrying about what comes afterwards — Toft admits that this is one department where a little help goes a long way. And while he might not have restaurant staff to help with the pack down at home, he does have a few tricks up his sleeve. “The Roborock Saros 20, or as we like to call it, Rocky, puts a line through one of those chores after entertaining, traversing multiple floor types, and cleaning up any mess while we focus on other things," he explains. Designed for homes where no two surfaces are necessarily the same, the Saros 20 can move between floors, navigate around furniture and identify objects in its path, adjusting its cleaning as it goes.
The kitchen, unsurprisingly, is where Toft naturally gravitates. For someone whose career has been built around food, it's a place not only to cook, but also to gather and spend time with the people around him. At home, he says, having a kitchen that allows him to cook while still interacting with his family and guests is key. It’s also, of course, where the occasional spill or dropped ingredient is inevitable.

“I still really enjoy cooking for my family, along with guests when entertaining, so having my Roborock Saros 20 there to quickly pick up any drops and spills while I head off to the dining table is a welcome relief," he says. Its stain-targeting AI can identify different types of dirt and adjust its cleaning accordingly, while the FlexiArm side brush is designed to reach along edges and into the places that are easy to miss.
Beyond the practicalities, it’s the personal details that make a space feel like home for Toft — things that carry a sense of time and place, alongside the comforts that allow him to properly switch off. “If my house is clean and in order – Rocky’s area of expertise – then I'm free to enjoy it.” And these days, that time is perhaps more valuable than ever. For the new dad, a perfect night is less about anything elaborate and more about being at home with his family. “Right now, a perfect night at home is about recognising the little luxuries – and for me that’s feeling comfortable at home, surrounded by family, calm and cuddly – and being grateful for it.”
