Jeremy Strong is finally getting the spotlight he deserves, leading Netflix's adaptation of The Boys From Brazil.
Of course, we'd expect our favourite Eldest Boy to only align himself with the best. The project — which comes courtesy of Ira Levin — is being brought to screen via a television series by Peter Morgan, whose impressive resume includes creating another acclaimed Netflix series, The Crown. Intrigued? All your questions about The Boys From Brazil, answered below.
What is The Boys From Brazil about?
The series takes its plot from Ira Levin's novel by the same name, which was first published back in 1976. It's also not the first time The Boys From Brazil has been adapted for screen: in 1978, it was turned into a film starring Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier.
It tells the story of Yakov Liebermann (Jeremy Strong), an eager Nazi hunter who spies on a meeting of a fugitive Nazi organisation in Paraguay. He then receives a tip that the notorious Dr. Josef Mengele, the notorious Auschwitz doctor, is alive and living under an alias in Brazil. Liebermann travels to South America to track down the elusive and infamous doctor, only to discover a sinister conspiracy at work.
For a little more detail, the official synopsis of the 1978 novel reads:
“Alive and hiding in South America, the fiendish Nazi Dr. Josef Mengele gathers a group of former colleagues for a horrifying project―the creation of the Fourth Reich. Barry Kohler, a young investigative journalist, gets wind of the project and informs famed Nazi hunter Ezra Lieberman, but before he can relay the evidence, Kohler is killed. Thus, Ira Levin opens one of his career’s strangest and most masterful novels. Why has Mengele marked a number of harmless aging men for murder? What is the hidden link that binds them? What interest can they possibly hold for their killers: six former SS men dispatched from South America by the most wanted Nazi still alive, the notorious “Angel of Death"? One man alone must answer these questions and stop the killings―Lieberman, himself aging and thought by some to be losing his grip on reality.”
Who is cast in The Boys From Brazil?
There's no word yet on who will share the screen with Strong. 2025 is already off to a stellar start for the actor, with a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the upcoming Oscars for his role as Roy Cohn in the Donald Trump biopic, The Apprentice. It's the first role since he wrapped up on HBO's Succession and, judging by this latest news, definitely won't be the last.
