A new on-screen duo looks set to be unlocked, and we're very excited about it. According to reports, Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell are in talks to co-star in a remake of the 90s thriller, Single White Female. It's not the first time Ortega has proved herself adept at the creepier genre, from her role in You (which she'll revive in the upcoming fifth season), to Netflix's cult Wednesday. She's also booked and busy in film this year, from A24's soon-to-be-released Death Of A Unicorn, to The Weeknd's long-awaited Hurry Up Tomorrow. Russell is also no stranger to projects that lean a little weirder, starring opposite Timothée Chalamet in Bones And All as a pair of cannibals who fall in love, and her star-making turn in the sci-fi series Lost In Space.
So, what would the remake look like? Everything we know about Single White Female, below.
What is Single White Female about?
The cult classic first graced our screens in 1992, starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Fonda played Allison, a woman who takes in Hedra (played by Leigh) as a roommate, after recently breaking off her engagement. The pair move in together, but Allison begins rethinking her engagement, following which Hedra grows increasingly hostile. Before long, things take a thrilling and suspenseful turn, and Allison realises exactly what she's gotten herself into.
There's no word yet on whether the remake would follow the same plot, but we'd guess it's likely that Ortega and Russell would take on the leading roles.
Who else is involved in the project?
In addition to being in talks to star, both Ortega and Russell are signed on to executive produce Single White Female. There's no other talent or creatives attached to the project, however Elizabeth Gabler’s 3000 Pictures, which has a deal with Sony, is reportedly leading the remake.
