A night of cinema and instant memories at Mia Kidis’s short film screening for ‘King’s Cross Living’

In partnership with Fujifilm

It was a cool Thursday night amid a sudden downpour of thick rain, but the atmosphere at China Heights Main Gallery was electric with anticipation. Creative minds from around Sydney arrived under umbrellas, their footsteps softened by the wet pavement, yet inside, the air was charged with electricity. The sleek and minimalist walls of the gallery – normally a haven for contemporary art – were transformed for a single night into an immersive, cinematic world – an intimate yet vibrant gathering of artistic minds.

Curated by RUSSH, the evening was a seamless fusion of art, technology, and nostalgia. The event, centred around the launch of Fujifilm’s new hybrid instant camera, the Instax Mini Evo Cinema, invited a select group of guests to experience a unique blend of film, photography, and connection. Among them, you could spot the likes of Soraya Boularas, Yan Yan Chan, Mana Mackay, Brendan Cowell, Niamh Galea Valentine Fodor and Elise Zecevic, their faces illuminated by the soft glow of the cameras that captured their candid moments. As the rain drummed against the gallery windows, laughter and conversations flowed freely, like a soundtrack to the evening's events.

At the heart of the evening was Mia Kidis’s captivating short film, King’s Cross Living. With its theme of friendship and nostalgia, the film drew guests into the story of Axel and Kenya, whose spontaneous moments of movement and shared experiences across the city felt both cinematic and deeply personal. As the film played, guests could interact with Instax Mini Evo Cinema cameras, capturing their own instant memories with a few clicks, adding them to the growing collection on the Instax Wall – a stunning tribute to the night’s shared moments.

As the evening wound down, the warmth of the crowd and the creative buzz in the air lingered. The fusion of new technology and timeless moments created a memory that would be cherished long after the rain stopped falling outside. It was a night of connection, art, and storytelling—a celebration of friendship captured in real time.
