How does one truly kick-start a week at the Formula 1? For me, it was a direct landing from Sydney, straight to the warm embrace of our hotel. Arriving at Crown Melbourne, I checked in, and my manager Greta and I immediately began the delightful task of unpacking my outfits into the closet. A much-needed, delicious lunch followed, where we indulged wholeheartedly.
A brief power nap was essential before joining everyone in the glam suite at The Crown. "Glamour on the Grid" marked the week's grand opening, a night dedicated to celebrating the start of the Grand Prix.
Chantelle Baker worked her magic with my makeup, achieving a flawless look in a mere 20 minutes – truly a boss move. Joey Scandizzo styled my hair into a braided bun, aiming for an effortless, slightly undone feel.
I slipped into my custom-made Viktoria & Woods dress, a stunning red suede piece. The low back and high collar were the defining features, and the weight of the fabric felt luxurious.
Thursday found me battling a touch of jet lag, so I opted for a comforting Yum Cha with my dad and family friends. I'd flown my dad in from Bali, giving him the chance to revisit his home town that he first left almost 50 years ago. We caught up with family, sharing stories, laughter, and a feast of Chinese food, accompanied by a few beers.
A quick dash back to my room at the Crown, and I was once again in the capable hands of Chantelle and Marie for glam. These women were absolute powerhouses, working tirelessly. Montana and Jess joined the pre-event preparations, along with Ricky from IMG and Greta. We formed a lovely little group, sticking together for much of the week.
We ordered champagne, oysters, and a charcuterie board to the room, creating a festive atmosphere as we got ready. Everyone looked chic and gorgeous for the Moët & Chandon dinner, a truly beautiful evening with candlelight and a live piano setting the perfect mood.
I had the pleasure of meeting some wonderful people that night, enjoying the company of those I was seated with. It was an evening of chic elegance.
The next day was dedicated to the TAG Heuer event. I began with my morning ritual of icing my face, using my LED red light, and following my skincare routine. I was especially excited to see my dear friend Nadia from Bali, who now lives in Melbourne. She arrived with her fiancé and our mutual friend Oscar. My room became a bustling hub once more, as Chantelle and Marie worked their magic, and Jess, Montana, Ricky, and Greta joined the preparations. We listened to old-school hip-hop, creating a lively, chaotic, but wonderful atmosphere.
The event itself was a delight, with beautiful interiors and delicious food. At 10 PM, the after-party entrance – a nightclub hidden within a garage – rose from the ground, revealing the night's next chapter.
The glam that night had a slightly messy, "tired girl" vibe, or perhaps that was just me.
It was a long but incredibly fun week. I felt a bit run down on Saturday and took the opportunity to rest. I did attend the race on Sunday, and the rain added an exciting, unpredictable element to the day.
This was my first time working in Melbourne, and it was a special experience to return to the city of my birth. It’s always been a place I visit from Bali to see family and friends since I was a child. It was, in a word, fun!
