In the bag: Lizzy and Georgia May Jagger on nostalgia, motherhood and the best smell in the world

Few sisters are as cool as Lizzy and Georgia May Jagger. The British model duo are totally aligned in some ways (a love of dancing) and completely at odds in others (their taste in men). But that's what makes their relationship so interesting and dynamic.

It's also the reason they pair have been tapped by Jo Malone London to star in the latest campaign for English Pear and Sweet Pea Cologne. Shot in the English countryside, it taps the nostalgia of their childhood, while paying tribute to the iconic British fragrance.

From personal style to working with family to the ways their mother introduced them to the world of perfume, RUSSH speaks to Lizzy and Georgia below.

So, what was it like, being on set with your sister?

Lizzy: It was amazing having the opportunity to work on this campaign with Georgia. We obviously have a natural synergy together, so it was a lot of fun. It was also extra special because Georgia had not long become a new mum, so we had my nephew there too

Georgia: It was so wonderful getting to spend two days hanging out. We were in this beautiful place with horses, getting to run in fields of flowers – it was very magical.

You both have such distinct personal styles – how do you find those differences show up when you’re working side by side creatively and emotionally?

Lizzy: For me, even though we have our own different styles, when we are together, I notice our various family traits reflected in each other. I think our respective style compliments one another rather than distracts. It’s a bit like the English Pear scents. The English Pear and Freesia and the English Pear & Sweet Pea are individual but can also be layered together to create something unique.

Georgia: I actually feel more similarities come through when we're working together rather than differences. We love to have fun and make jokes and make each other laugh. It was my first time doing a big shoot since having my son – he was back at the hotel. So it felt comforting having Lizzy there for my first time back at work.

How would you each describe your individual relationships with fragrance, and its evolvution over time?

L: I have always experimented with scent, but I learnt quite early on that I really like a fragrance that I can wear as opposed to it wearing me.

G: I think when I started playing around with fragrance, I never knew exactly what I liked... but I feel like scent is such a personal thing. It makes you feel put together even when you’re wearing something casual. I feel a lot more confident now in what I want to smell like. I'm pretty loyal to my favourites, but I still love trying something new...

What's your earliest scent-related memory?

L: Definitely my mother, she was very into fragrance. My earliest memories are definitely her dressing room, she had so many bottles of perfume. I experimented with a lot of scent layering in there.

G: Mum loves sandalwood and Fracas is her favourite perfume. She had a big dressing table with loads of perfume bottles and I used to love to cover myself in all of them growing up... probably putting on way too much.

What is, in your opinion, the best smell in the world?

L: This has evolved as time goes on but currently sweet peas are top of the list because they remind me of mum. She grows them and always places a vase on the bedside when we go to and stay.

G: For me it’s currently the smell of my son’s head. But I also love the smell of flowers – specifically climbing jasmine and sweet peas.

Are you into one signature scent, or do you prefer a fragrance wardrobe?

L: I mean I’m obsessed with English Pear and Sweet Pea, but I do like to experience other scents. I just love perfume. I like trying natural oils with woody or floral bases too.

G: I absolutely love having a scent wardrobe. I mix and layer, depending on my mood. Right now, given it's Spring, I'm right into English Pear and Freesia. It's light and fresh and perfect.

Incredible. So you shot this Jo Malone London campaign on an English orchard. Did it make you nostalgic for your childhood in any way?

L: Yes, we also grew up near Richmond Park. We have always spent a lot of time in and around nature, and my mum grows fruits, vegetables, and flowers at home...

What's the most British thing about you?

L: Probably my love of a full English breakfast.

G: Probably my sense of humour... and my teeth.

What do you admire most about each other?

L: Georgia is so kind and caring. She is also very decisive. I wish I had that quality.

G: I admire Lizzy's confidence. Her sense of style is also incredible. I have always looked up to the way she dresses.. And obviously her hair. I wish mine would grow as long...

What’s the most similar trait you share?

L: I think the ability to make each other laugh.

G: Our love for dancing.

And finally, the biggest difference?

L: As mentioned above, I am not the most decisive, I procrastinate.

G: Our taste in men!
